Morning, just after some ideas on some nice/funky bars and restaurants in either the London Bridge or Victoria area. Budget wise it doesn’t matter too much, but not toooo expensive. Thank you!

El Pastor by Borough Market is lush

BigDahliaFan · 06/08/2024 10:46

Borough Market is full of funky restaurants. You can't move for funky restaurants.

GoldOnyx · 06/08/2024 10:49

Agree with the Borough Market suggestion! Some I particularly like are Bancone and Pulia (both pasta restaurants), Boro Bistro (French food), Caravan (all day dining). For Victoria, there are nice places around Simon Milton square (close to Victoria station) and in terms of bar recommendations, I really like Vagabond wine bar.

FrenchandSaunders · 06/08/2024 10:50

Harry's is new in Victoria (and so is the Alchemist), just by the station. Both very nice.

Yes - second this suggestion!

I love Padella in Borough Market - there’s no bookings but you can join a virtual queue which moves very quickly

Ooh we've just come back from a weekend in London!

Slightly further out but Bancone in Borough Yards. Amazing hand made pasta and good wine by the carafe. Oh and lovely rosemary focaccia. Extremely reasonably priced for the city too.

If you are after breakfast too Watchtower by a great, gorgeous porridge and only a few minutes walk from Tower Bridge

Yes absolutely agree with Padella too. Beautiful food

Icanttakethisanymore · 06/08/2024 11:37

Jose or Pizzaro on bermondsey street are good options (Jose is a tapas place and Pizzaro is a restaurant but it's the same ppl) - the tapas place is also a bar so that could work well. It's small though so better if the sun is shining as you can spill out onto the street.

Icanttakethisanymore · 06/08/2024 11:39

To add - Padella is great food but very much a place to 'get food' rather than a bar / restaurant to chill out and enjoy the vibes. The turnover is quite fast. Great option for a meal though

Cote in Hays Galleria. Not very funky but nice view and, crucially, they do a cheeseboard as a dessert option.

beguilingeyes · 06/08/2024 11:50

I would definitely head for London Bridge/Borough Market. Victoria is a bit soul-less.

Shoxfordian · 06/08/2024 12:07

Vagabond is fun in victoria for wine

I had the crab linguine there last weekend, it was something else!

FrenchandSaunders · 06/08/2024 12:31

I forgot about yaatra! That’s lovely.

BobandRobertaSmith · 06/08/2024 12:36

There is so much choice around London Bridge with Borough Market, Bermondsey Street and the river, it’s hard to choose! Victoria is a bit soulless as a PP suggested. Champor Champor on Weston Street is one of my all time favourites. It has amazing Thai Malaysian fusion food and stunning quirky decor.

Cocktails at The Shard for the view is lovely but maybe not your vibe? Also The George Inn, an old galleried coaching inn with a great cobbled courtyard for sunny days and open fires in winter that appears in Dickens’ books, is lovely. They might be too “obvious” but sometimes the obvious gets overlooked 😂

Champor Champor - Thai Malay Dining in London Bridge

Champor-Champor, one of the finest Thai restaurants in London, is not just another restaurant. It is a whole culture of its own.

Borough market - great new Greek restaurant called Oma. Parillan has a nice outdoor seating bit if it’s a nice day and you want to sit outside, you can just go for a drink in the front seating area.

Bermondsey Street - Bermondsey Corner is a nice wine bar. Mala Madre is a funky bar with a tiki bar theme. Chapter 72 is a coffee shop by day and bar by night. You might like the new place Fleurie which is a little French eaterie.

I also second Jose and Pizarro from PP.

If you’re after a more casual sports vibe then Vinegar Yard is more of an outdoor beer garden type place with different food trucks.

I would also skip Victoria and go straight to London Bridge!

Marmiteontoastgirlie · 06/08/2024 12:46

If you’re after pasta then Flour & Grape at the bottom of Bermondsey St gives Padella a run for its money - it also has a gin bar downstairs. Bermondsey Street isn’t in Bermondsey but rather runs straight down from London Bridge station and easily walkable from the station (take hospital exit not borough market exit).

Perfectlystill · 06/08/2024 12:49

Padella is lovely. As a PP said, they will rush you through your meal a bit but the pasta is sensational.

Bancone also good.

I like the Indian food stall at Borough Market - incredible dhosas and delicious things I can't remember the name of.

Turmerictolly · 06/08/2024 15:26

Flour and Grape on Bermondsey St with the cosy cocktail bar underneath (does wine too). They dont take bookings.
Kin and Deum for amazing Thai food and drinks - 2 crucifix St.
There's a nice French restaurant on Bermondsey St too, can't remember the name plus some nice tapas places. Cafe Murano also nice and a bit fancier.

girlmeetsboy · 06/08/2024 15:42

Arthur Hoopers by Borough Market is lovely, small plates if you like that sort of thing - enjoy wherever you choose!
