To reply to my Father's moronic email ccing in all his Daily Mailesque friends thus...

CountessDracula · 14/04/2008 22:47

My father takes pleasure in copying me in to his stupid fascist emails about all sorts of DM type topics

Today he sent to me and a lot of others the stupid one about the holocaust not being taught in schools

Subject: FW: In Memoriam

Recently this week, UK removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it "offended" the Moslem population which claims it never occurred. This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russia peoples looking the other way!

Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be "a myth," it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets

This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!

Join us and be a link in the memorial chain and help us distribute it around the world.

Please send this e-mail to 10 people you know and ask them to continue the memorial chain.

Please don't just delete it. It will only take you a minute to pass this

SO

I replied copying all of them in with a link to sophos and hoax-buster informing him that it was sensible to check such obvious drivel before forwarding en masse

Stupid twat he is

Saveme - you CAN do that - but if you hit "reply all" and link everyone on the list to Snopes, then you are educating them into the scourge of email crap as well

Saveme · 15/04/2008 09:36

Yes, I just guess not all of us have the burning urge to "educate" others.

trishpops · 15/04/2008 09:49

sheikyerbouti - that last line is so funny ROFL!

beaniesteve · 15/04/2008 11:16

"But why the hell would I bother with that? What's wrong with hitting the delete button and getting on with the rest of your life? " maybe you have a point, but I have always found it a really effective way to stop serial offenders from sending me Shte throutgh email! Specially when it's Racist shie

Twiglett · 15/04/2008 11:19

DKMA

if you've never heard of Snopes how did you read 'sophos' as snopes then?

eh? eh?

Sherlock Twig

CountessDracula · 15/04/2008 11:21

OK so those who think IABU

You think it's ok to peddle racist and patently untrue crap without being challenged?

OP posts:
Twiglett · 15/04/2008 11:21

reads thread properly, takes back previous comment

not-sherlock twig

LazyLinePainterJane · 15/04/2008 11:26

I don't think it's a "little thing". There are people out there that actually believe all this drivel and it really doesn't do to have their bigoted viewpoints furthered with made-up toss.

We replied to one of the dying children ones from MIL with a Snopes link and very much got told to get a life and stop being so miserable!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 15/04/2008 11:37

I don't think YABU at all! It annoys me that people send these emails without checking to see if it is at all true 1st!!

YANBU. This is what I did to such stupid drivel, and their senders were shamed into using their brain. The happy result is that nobody sends me this shit anymore.

Rowlers · 15/04/2008 12:02

YANBU
I have a lovely friend who sends me lots of this soppy vomit-inducing guff of the "to all my best friends in the world" type. They get deleted instantly but I don't have the heart to ask her to stop.
She doesn't send me clearly racist clap trap though.
I would have to speak up then I think.
And if it was my own father sending the stuff, I wouldn't hesitate.
Not that he would.
I luv my dad. He's brilliant. He can walk on a tightrope without falling off etc etc.

brrrrmmmm · 15/04/2008 13:08

"vomity heaves of twattery" is my new favourite phrase - brilliant!!

Saveme · 15/04/2008 13:15

Don't think anyone said YABU, just that it's not worth banging on and on about.

Delete and move on.

Saveme · 15/04/2008 13:17

Oh, btw OP - you copying your response into everyone who had the original email means you probably spammed a load of people who already knew that it was a crock of shit.

Good one.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/04/2008 13:23

Saveme - did you know that you can "hide" threads? You know, just hide and move on

theyoungvisiter · 15/04/2008 13:24

YANBU.

And to those posters who think it's sanctimonious, surely stopping countless other people being distressed or even scammed by hoax emails has got to be a good thing? I think it's far more irresponsible to allow this crap to be perpetuated as true.

Sadly there are plenty of people out there who DO send money to alleged leukemia victims, or get worried about their children taking non-existent drugs, or being sterilised by having non-existent horse tranquilisers put into their drinks in bars,

Some of them will just suffer needless distress and lost sleep. Others will lose money or waste parliamentary and police time by calling the authorities and demanding action on these non-existent problems.

Stopping these malicious chain emails is a GOOD thing.

Saveme · 15/04/2008 13:25

but then I'd miss out on everybody's tedious whining vvvqv, wouldn't want that now would I?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/04/2008 13:26

But surely it's not worth banging on about???

Saveme · 15/04/2008 13:26

Just tell the person who emailed it then, don't copy in everybody on the original list FGS!

theyoungvisiter · 15/04/2008 13:27

"Just tell the person who emailed it then, don't copy in everybody on the original list FGS!"

You are missing the point.

The point is not to make the person who sent it feel like an idiot.

The point is to stop everyone they sent it TO perpetuating the same crap.

If you only reply to the sender then 10% of their recipients will continue to forward it and so the crap goes on.

Saveme · 15/04/2008 13:28

Why are you making the assumption that everybody else on the list doesn't know that it is crap?

Saveme · 15/04/2008 13:29

Oh right, you believe 10% of people will believe it, just read that bit.

theyoungvisiter · 15/04/2008 13:30

statistically since this stuff continues to fly around the world at a rate of knots then unfortunately there clearly are PLENTY of people who don't know it's crap.

Better to waste one email (politely) tellign people it's a hoax than generate 1000 more spam emails as the chain continues to expand outwards.

hippipotami · 15/04/2008 13:32

Agree with the youngvisitor 100%.
