Find the source. Fruit bowl? Bin? Ive just found the source that has been driving me mad is an old tub of birdfood in the shed...

showeringthisaft · 05/08/2024 17:48

They are driving me mad too. It's my own fault, I like to have the back door open and front window to air the house, but the buzzy little fuckers come in with it.

Funny how they can get in the house but can't find their way out.

ALPHAFEMALESINCEBIRTH · 05/08/2024 21:41

look on amazon for a electric fly zapper

Iloveeverycat · 05/08/2024 21:47

Get some fly paper from Amazon.

Sunshineafterthehail · 05/08/2024 21:48

Hide the dead bodies better op...

Areyoumashing · 05/08/2024 21:48

This works really well. Get a spray bottle and fill it with water and fabric conditioner, sort of squash to water ratio. Then spray the fly either in flight or when still. The fabric conditioner makes it hard for them to continue flying around, then you can really squirt hard. Also smells nice too!! Honestly, this works every single time!

Pictures of the flies? Most fly species are easy to fix if you know the species because it's simply a matter of removing their food source.

Do you have pot plants? I discovered there was such a thing a a fungus gnat that lays eggs in pot plat soil. I got some sticky yellow traps and put one in each pot plant. Caught loads of the buggers and hopefully have got rid of them all now.

If they are black then they are likely to be fruit flies, so might be living in a compost bin, fruit bowl, or similar. Sticky traps would also work for them.

We had a fly invasion a few years ago and got rid of every indoor pit plant. No flies since.

Dyatlovovpass · 05/08/2024 22:45

Swallow them. And then a Spider to catch the flies...etc.

Royalshyness · 05/08/2024 22:46

I was coming on the say Raid but I go around the house and actively get them up close and I know I spray too much .. but it works also to spray rooms and keep the doors closed before bed

GRex · 05/08/2024 22:48

What type of fly? Frit fly on lawn?

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 05/08/2024 22:52

I was also going to say check for fungus gnats. They have kind of pointy bums. They are dealt with well by fly paper of Gnat Off/ Gnat Away solution in water. They can also infest Nespresso pods, if you store these anywhere prior to recycling.

I have terrible flies and bugs in my house. I have big windows with ledges. I use sticky paper on the ledges and collect lots of flies like this. google glue traps

ElephantilonZed · 05/08/2024 22:57

Keep the house clean and don't over-water any houseplants.

Spuddled · 05/08/2024 23:02

A wee gü pot with apple cider vinegar and some fairy liquid, cover with cling film and prick some holes. Will catch them all and you know it needs changed when they start coming back! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Source searching next weekend when I have some more time!

Trixibella · 05/08/2024 23:04

I spray my windows with Raid and they die after flying into them. Saves spraying it round the room which is probably not great for the dogs.

If you water plants from the bottom with a saucer you don't get flies.
