Student loans company

I’ve finished paying off my student loan! Thank God for that!

BUT they have told me today that until their systems update they won’t cancel the order to my payroll to keep taking money from my salary.

This means that they will definitely take £150 from me at the end of the month even though they already owe me a refund of £80!

How can this be?

AIBU to be really pissed off? They’ve been charging me 7% interest and I doubt they’ll put 7% on the money they owe me!

Any suggestions on how to stop them gratefully received too!

They are arses. Dd lives abroad but earns under the repayment limit. She sends in countless wage slips but they still chase her. They sent a bailiff letter over a payment she didn't owe. And despite her updating her address They still send letters here. She's not lived here for 5 years.

Martin Lewis has done stuff on this before. I'd check out money saving expert for advice

My last student loan payment comes out this month - hurrah! Well done to you.

However I switched from Paye to direct debit last year, were you not given this option? It should prevent this from happening

I had this too - every month, they'd take the money via PAYE and I'd request it back. Each monthly payment was individually returned 2-3 months later (but they kept taking it for 8 months!).

So that would be my one tip - you may not have to wait the whole year for one big refund.

Yes I had this too, paid off in 2016 and they contacted me to explain I'd be better off paying the last year or so via DD to stop this. Maybe not as organised any more.

Yes, but they told me they still wouldn’t be able to stop the salary deductions straight away. I couldn’t afford to make double payments.
