To be slightly freaked out?

Following on from a thread I’ve just seen about someone having a weird experience…..

So yesterday my brother asked if my DH and I fancied a walk with their family today. We agreed. He chose the place which was a random place that I knew nothing about. All I knew was it was a nature reserve and had a child friendly route for their DC.

Anyway, as soon as we arrived, I felt on edge. The place felt really sad and heavy. I was really picky and nervous (and pretty annoying) all day. Tell DH not to walk too far, constantly worrying about the children, watching their step etc.
We followed the trail and came to a viaduct. Over 150 metres high. There were Samaritans signs all over the top of the bridge, urging the reader to call. The drop was horrific and I couldn’t wait to leave.
On the way to the car, we passed what looked like a family/group of about 20 people, heading up, carrying flowers.
On the way home, I googled the place and there were countless suicides. But not just suicides….people found dead in the surrounding woods. It was also used as an ammunition factory I believe, as well as various air raid shelters dotted about.

Im usually a very ‘matter of fact’ practical person and not one to be particularly spiritual.

anyone ever experienced anything like this too?

Don't think I've ever been to Healy Dell but I find that whole Whitworth/Bacup area very bleak. Not sure if it's the valleys

Had an odd experience driving through Waterfoot once, I just all of a sudden felt incredibly sad

I visited an old WWII base in Malaysia once and started feeling really miserable. I mentioned the atmosphere feeling oppressive and found out it had gone from being a military base to an horrific POW camp. I left, I’m not the kind of person who experiences vibes or anything like that and I tend to visit a lot of historical sites.

Im always curious about Sentosa island in Singapore, it’s an island with a cluster of theme parks and hotels but apparently has a miserable war time history and locals think many parts are haunted

Healey Dell is beautiful! My dogs love swimming in the river there.
The Rossendale Valley is surrounded by beautiful countryside and has been absolutely glorious in the summer sun (possibly 'bleak' in the winter!)
I only get the 'heavy oppressive' feeling in places like Rochdale, Oldham, Manchester etc where you can't see any countryside at all.

@Happyinarcon Same! I think this is why it freaked me out slightly. I’ve been to Auschwitz, literally hundreds of temple ruins, valley of the kings, lots of tombs etc and as I say, I don’t think I’m particularly spiritual.
