Will this have ruined the microwave? Please help huge row with DP

DP has ran the microwave with nothing in it, to ‘entertain’ dd 3 so she could watch it go round. Will this have damaged it? I am worried it won’t work properly now and it is used sometimes for Dd’s food

Or buy a roomba and then DD can ride that whilst DH does the washing up 😁

My dm told me it was dangerous to put the microwave on with nothing in it but I have no idea why. It just seems a really silly thing to do.

Back in the day, people used to leave a bowl of water in the microwave in case it was turned on accidentally. I'm not sure if technology has changed so that it's no longer necessary.

It can damage it, I went through 3 of them in a row when dh was heating empty plates in them. I bought a silicone mat off Amazon to use in the microwave while you’re heating a plate and this one’s survived. It was damaging something inside and they’d run but not heat.
