Live in Germany for a bit and then on visits to the UK you'll adore being called love, duck and sweetheaert by strangers.

largeginandtonic · 15/04/2008 07:44

Quite like 'darlin', dh calls me 'chick'. Was not sure for a while but like it now. I feel waaaayyyy too old to be a 'chick', more like hen

zippitippitoes · 15/04/2008 07:50

i tend to call them mate

is this the correct form of reply

so just for you darlin ill throw in tracking

cheers mate tahnks for that

largeginandtonic · 15/04/2008 07:54

No Zippi you must call them sweetheart, they love that.

zippitippitoes · 15/04/2008 07:55

god this is more complicated than i thought

i call bf sweetheart sometimes which in my head is an ironic reference to the age gap not sure if he realises that tho

not sure if i could call a stranger sweetheart it would be very flirty to me

I think mate is a good response in that case, I also say cheers mate or here you go mate when handing them a cup of tea if they're working with me.

I have a friend who always calls me baby girl, I like that but wouldn't if I didn't know him so well.

BBBee · 15/04/2008 07:58

no zippi - you should raise a sardonic eyebrow and say "are you trying to sex me up young man?"

largeginandtonic · 15/04/2008 07:58

Only as flirty as them calling you love, darlin etc...

Try it, especially on grizzly rough men, works a treat.

OverMyDeadBody · 15/04/2008 07:59

lol at the irony being lost on bf.

I don't think I could call someone I didn't know sweetheart, would make me feel old

zippitippitoes · 15/04/2008 07:59

yep i say mate at college quite a lot cos i do a lot of practicals with young lads

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 15/04/2008 08:02

zippitippitoes · 15/04/2008 08:03

I fell over in a food factory once, and my wanker boss was more concerned about picking food up off the floor than picking me u off the floor. There are lots of ex miners in my area, and a lot work in this factory, and one cam echarging over and bellowed "OI YOU WANKER! THERE'S A LITTLE GIRL SAT ON THE FLOOR CRYING HERE AND YOU'RE PISSIN' ABOUT W'SALMON!"

Little Girl!

I was all of nineteen and mortally offended (and very pleased and grateful)! (burly ex miner was in 50s)

In hindsight, I must have looked like a weeping 6 year old to him!

BBBee · 15/04/2008 08:09

zippi you could carry it off with a twinkly glint.

they would flock to you.

largeginandtonic · 15/04/2008 08:13

Will get dh to say it to me later just so i can do it

OrmIrian · 15/04/2008 08:15

My boss called me blossom for a while. I gave him a look and he stopped referring to me as anything for a while just sort of gulped nervously when he addressed me. He's not used to working with women

Little girl (whilst being exceedingly unlikely in my case) would be very irritating and actually offensive I think.

love, darling, sweetheart etc not a problem. Autopilot talk I suspect.

SmugColditz · 15/04/2008 08:20

He wasn't patronising me deliberatly though, I was outraged and told my parents (I still lived with them) and they pointed out he probably had children older than me. He was FURIOUS with the wanker that had left me stuck on the floor with my ankle trapped.

I was so ridiculously babyfaced, I had to produce Id for the job to prove my age.

I did get babied a lot in that job, in hindsight!

zippitippitoes · 15/04/2008 08:21

autopilot

shucks

deflated

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 15/04/2008 08:25

Sorry zippi. Only 'autopilot' when faced with gorgeous, slim and totally lovely young women of course !!

fishie · 15/04/2008 08:27

what are these 'practicals with young lads' you speak of zip?

i think love is better than sweetheart. not too sure about mate.
