Confused about hospital results?

bit of a confusing one!

i was staying in hospital and had a heart echo. All the doctors and nurses were great and I received really amazing care. I’m just a little confused about something. The consultant a few hours after the echo said that the person who took the scan said it was overall fine, but that there was certain areas in it which were not great and disappointing for my age (early 20s). Something about the septum being slightly thicker or stiffer or something like that? But they said that it’s probably ok and likely just because the scan quality isn’t great on people who are particularly skinny or something along those lines. They said it was probably all fine and not to be worried but that we’d do a cardiac mri as an outpatient just to be sure

I had a question about it later that night and asked a nurse, she checked the notes from the echo and couldn’t find any info about any of that other than the echo was normal

I’ve since seen a different consultant who said the echo was all normal and there’s no note of a cardiac mri to be done, and my GP said they’ve received information that the echo is normal

i can’t get back through to the original doctor who was there who I spoke to in the first place, and there doesn’t seem to be any notes of the septum thing- does that mean they’ve reviewed it again and actually it’s all ok and normal? I know they said it’s nothing to worry about but just a bit confused

does anyone know what they could have been talking about in the first place (I’m sure it was something to do with the septum being thicker or something)? And I’m assuming it all must be fine since everyone’s said the echo is normal? If anyone can shed any sort of light or advice it would be great 😅

Are you particularly tall? You mention being skinny but are you tall too?

Not really, I’m 5ft6. Skinny-wise I’m not underweight or anything (BMI 20) but I don’t carry weight around my chest and apparently if you’re skinny around your chest it can affect the results or something along those lines? Unless I’ve completely misunderstood what they said haha

This needs to be clarified. Sometimes the sonographer conducting the scan might not be reading it correctly - they are not doctors. They might have queried something - but then a doctor has reviewed and said it’s ok. With structural defects like they are describing - with thickened septum - you need to exclude cardiac conditions like cardiomyopathies like HOCM etc. That would warrant cardiac MRI to greater quantify the issues seen. But again it sounds unlikely if the echo has been reported as normal. My guess is that the person conducting the echo read it wrong - but there is absolutely no harm in seeking clarification from the hospital that the echocardiogram definitely shows no structural abnormalities requiring further assessment by cardiologist. I am assuming you had an ECG too. Was it normal?
