Lighthearted - Why does MIL leave my toilet seat up!

Lighthearted post! Just curious as to what other people might think the reason is. And no, I won't be asking MIL as it's not a big deal and I don't really care.

Everytime my MIL uses our toilet, she always leaves the toilet seat up. I have never noticed her doing this before. Probably only started a few months ago. My DH NEVER ever leaves the seat up so it's not like she's putting it back to how she found it. She definitely doesn't have a penis as she birthed DH so I am just so confused! Any ideas?

I do this - normally because I've wiped round after I've been and don't remember to put the seat back down.

@blacklippy it's not disgusting. Get a grip. What are you worried about?

It is disgusting 🤮I'm not worried I'm just disgusted. It takes just a second to put the lid down for Christ's sake.

Citrusandginger · 03/08/2024 16:12

I'd go with hovvering too. My late MIL - who I loved - believed she would catch things from sitting on any toilet that wasn't her own. She was really quite shocked that I wasn't that bothered unless they were particularly skanky.

After she uses the toilet?

Perhaps as a courtesy to the next 'customer'?

Bonbon21 · 03/08/2024 16:19

Do you have sons?
Is she trying to make life easier for them?
Or easier for you having to clean up after them?

MinPinSins · 03/08/2024 16:23

Could she have a medical issue, that means things (whether No1 or No2) don't go straight down/or get slightly messy, and she's giving a wipe before she leaves?

I'm not going to be touching a germ-laden bog seat lid with my hands - not for nobody, however disgusted they may feel. I've lid-up-flushed all my life and guess what, I'm still alive.

We don't own a toilet brush so definitely not that. I don't think FIL insists as he doesn't do this in our house. Must be the mars/venus thing!

Edited

You don't own a toilet brush????

You've flushed shit all over your bathroom

Scarlettpixie · 03/08/2024 16:27

My mum was a hoverer and lifted the seat so as not to get pee on it (I assume). I suspect this is what your MIL is doing.

summerdazey · 03/08/2024 16:28

blacklippy · 03/08/2024 15:35

The toilet seat up is odd but its the not closing the lid when you flush that gets to me. My SIL does this and she is in all other ways well mannered and refined but she goes to the loo and then flushes with the lid up!

I asked her about it she looked at me like I was a weirdo. I mean seriously who does that?

People who haven't seen those videos where they show it in special light spraying water all over your tooth brush.

Same as people who touch chicken and spread it round their kitchen

summerdazey · 03/08/2024 16:29

Maybe your loo seat is dirty?

vendredinamechange · 03/08/2024 16:30

Re OP:
She's changing gender and decided to grow a willy.
She wants to piss you off.
She's checking how clean you keep your loo.
She's attention seeking.
She's just a bit weird that way.

😂
Ah! That's why my bathroom always smells so delicious.

Mybusyday · 03/08/2024 16:31

My MIL used to do this when she visited - she would clean the toilet wether she had used it or not - cheeky mare our toilet is always clean

earlymorningcurlewcall · 03/08/2024 16:32

Definitely checking the underside of the toilet seat for any sign of splashed diarrhoea.

carpetpuller · 03/08/2024 16:35

My sister does this. She's the only female in a house full of makes. Four sons and get dh. So she just automatically puts it up when she's done

Lots of people don’t like touching it

Choochoo21 · 03/08/2024 17:10

My mum does this and has never given a reason as to why!

She’s slightly misogynistic and used to be a germaphobe.

So I think it either stems from when she used to be a germaphobe and it’s now habit or to make life easier for the men.

123ZYX · 03/08/2024 17:13

If you don't put the lid down before you flush, you spray germs around the bathroom. Much better to put the lid down then wash your hands. If you don't, you wash your hands, then touch door handles etc that are covered in germs.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 03/08/2024 22:45

blacklippy · 03/08/2024 16:05

Disgusting behaviour, people will notice this and think your ill mannered and grotty for this.

Who will? Who even knows - there's nobody in there with me when I flush, how would anyone know whether I left the seat up or down when I flush? And you do realise that there are germs EVERYWHERE, all the time, don't you? The bathroom isn't an immaculate, sanitised zone if you flush with the lid down...

Wideskye · 03/08/2024 22:55

Could she be on medication that colours her wee? If so she may be cleaning the loo to stop staining it.
