To find it really annoying when you join a group on Facebook and then the admin does an “let’s welcome our new members” post!

Admittedly it’s only happened once on a local FB group I joined, but now I notice that the admin of the group (who is a local school mum) does a post EVERY week welcoming new members and tagging them. It really winds me up: a) new members probably don’t want their name on a post for all to see, they probably wanted to just discretely join the group as a source of information / sell stuff / recycle stuff etc etc b) who on god’s green earth has got time to do a post every week?! (This woman obviously! To be honest I think it’s her way of being having a bit of control and notoriety as the starter of what is now quite a popular and very useful group locally.)

I’ve seen it on other FB groups I’ve joined too but luckily it’s a fad that started long after I had joined so didn’t get “announced”

I hate Facebook anyway and only remain on it for local groups and events as so much stuff is advertised on their now. Or id be off it in a flash!!

Am I being unreasonable or do peoooe that have experienced this love it

Ha, we have very clear rules on what the group is for. It’s for information, notification and passing on old equipment. If you want to whinge that little Jonny got a detention we are not your audience. We aren’t part of school, we can’t help, so take it elsewhere.
There is another group where anything goes and if you were only in that group you’d think the school was a miserable place run by dictators and filled with crying kids. We work hard to keep it strictly factual and informative. Most folk don’t want the drama anyway 😂 I post the newsletter every week (and use the everyone tag but it’s the only time I do) mainly so if we get a whinge about no notice for something I can tag them in it. We also have things like term dates and equipment lists pinned for easy access. I’m not building a community, I’m offering a service. So yes, iron fist. 😂

Thanks for the explanation, genuinely.
You do sound a bit overly efficacious so there are probably people rolling their eyes at you too, it’s just a fb group.

Who reads these welcome posts?

This! I don't really care.

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 02/08/2024 19:58

I agree, I hate it too.

Im an admin for a few groups and Facebook keeps asking me if I want to do this kind of message. I answer no every single time.

It's good for searching potential dates or what groups your husband has joined as the welcome post will come up in search results 😆 that's if you have suspiscions they're a sleazy type.
