DH is Deputy under the Court of Protection for an old friend who is in a care home with cognitive difficulties. This means he is responsible for looking after his finances. The friend has no access to money himself and if he needs anything will phone and ask us to get it on his behalf if it is not something that the care home can provide. I often order things from Amazon and have them delivered directly to the home. The last time I did this we had great difficulty with the delivery as Amazon put on a 'one time code' which the home receptionist had to give to the delivery driver. This code was sent to my email address. I had no idea they were going to do this as had never happened before and the first attempt at delivery we were all completely blindsided. We did eventually manage to get the package delivered at the third attempt as Amazon tracking indicated they would try again so I kept checking emails until the code arrived and then phoned the home reception to let them know. This was OK as I was at home and available to do this, but I can't always guarantee to be on future occasions. AIBU to think this is a bit crazy to send the code to me for a delivery to someone else who is several miles away from me? The address makes clear it is obviously a care home and therefore delivery to a vulnerable person. I understand it is for security reasons, but the driver cannot hand the parcel to the recipient personally anyway unless he goes up to the person's room and the reception area is secure, with keypad entry or receptionist buzzing them in. I have tried to contact Amazon to explain that this is inappropriate and unnecessary and why but it appears to be pretty much impossible. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it something new that Amazon are doing? Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to stop it happening again? The ironic thing is that half the time when I get parcels delivered here they don't even wait for me to open the door let alone give them a secret code!
