Chicken pox

Can someone help me as i am going out of my mind

Yesterday my son's friend asked if he wanted to go to a trampoline park so we went along. Now once there a child was sick all over the place and the staff allowed said child and the other children to carry on as normal while someone wiped it up. Then the family i had been sat bang next to had 2 daughters who both had chicken pox (not scabbed over) so still infectious. I am so mad at myself for being stupid taking him to a place inside when 1. We go on holiday next week and 2. I have not long since had surgery for cancer. My son nor myself have had chicken pox so i'm now panicking we will both get it whilst in a foreign country. Its just the 2 of us going and i've got myself in a right state about me being too unwell go care for him if i get it

She shouldn’t have taken them there if they weren’t scabbed over. It has 10-21 incubation so yea you might get them whilst there. I guess all you can do is take precautionary medicine with you. It it your child that has had the cancer surgery? If so, if you speak to your gp they might prescribe some precautionary antivirals to take with you - acyclovir I believe. Particularly if you explain the holiday situation.
if they do arrive whilst you’re there, don’t try and fly back without a fit to fly certificate (even if they are scabbed over). I’ve heard too many stories about people being stopped from flying.

They were selfish for taking the kids there, but you could come across it at any time, don’t waste energy on this. I hope you have a lovely holiday.

chicken pox is the most infectious before you can see the spots, so you might well be fine.

Also- I should add that chicken pox is different for each child. My 3 year old got them a couple months ago (a couple weeks before holiday). He barely got any spots and they’d scabbed over within 4 days. So you might well be in this camp.

none of my 3 have ever felt poorly with it either.

It's unlucky, but incubation is 10-21 days so you may be home before getting it even if you were both infected. Can you delay the holiday at all? If you get away without it, just get the vaccine, not really worth all this angst.

Devilsmommy · 02/08/2024 07:41

Can you afford to get the vaccine for your little one?

Chika89 · 02/08/2024 07:41

I would make a complaint to the trampoline park. They shouldn’t be allowing children with unscabbed chicken pox to play on shared equipment.

time2changeCharlieBrown · 02/08/2024 08:04

Can you get a vaccine? Also sometimes they look fresh but arnt the spots can stay for ages it may be they weren’t actually infectious
also incubation period is usually two weeks so you would be back by then?
id try not to worry

Thanks everyone, i was thinking if he doesn't catch them this time then i'm definitely going to book the vaccine when we return home. I looked at it last night and it states because its a live vaccine to keep away from anyone who is vulnerable so i'd hate to get it him now for him to pass something on, on the plane. Its me who has had cancer surgery, i think i will email my nurse this morning and ask her to speak with my oncologist about it
