Neverending interviews... Getting about tired.

I've already had three interviews at a startup. They want me to do 4 roles in one. I've scored: 9, 9, 7, 7 and they're worried about my technical abilities. They wanted me to score at least an 8 in all roles. So no they've decided I need another interview. I'm actually kind of fed-up. Normally, they'd assign a take-home task, but instead I've been asked to provide the answers in the spot, not necessarily knowing what POV they want the answer from. I told the recruiter if they had asked the technical questions directly or given me said task we wouldn't be in this situation. I even told him that I'm starting to get concerns as a future employee.

Originally there were 2 interviews, then 3, and now they want a 4th one.....

Aibu of starting to feel tired about the whole thing?

That sounds well into "fuck it off" territory to me

HelterSkelter224 · 01/08/2024 19:43

Fuck that

HelterSkelter224 · 01/08/2024 19:43

Imagine working for them 😬

Exactly!! I'm still willing to go on a 4th one but it has to be super specific.

Never in a month of Sundays would I do this to echo PP this would give me major red flags about them as an employer

Aligirlbear · 01/08/2024 19:53

I think i would be telling the recruiter that you have changed your mind as you have concerns about their management style - Vibes aren’t positive for a good working environment -sounds like they are unable to communicate effectively or give clear guidance - red flags for a future boss 🙂

ILikeItWhatIsIt · 01/08/2024 19:56

They're incapable of making a decision. Huge red flag. I'd tell them to do one, personally.

Exactly, I don't think they're communicating effectively. Maybe the recruiter is to blame too.

Some people have told it's normal for startups, but I think they're definitely starting to take the piss. As a pp said, it shows they can't make uo their mind.

Normal for startups to have multiple rounds and technical tests, but the process and time commitment required to move through each stage should be clearly communicated upfront. The adding of additional stages is not normal, I’d say no thanks to this one.

VividQuoter · 01/08/2024 20:41

Do like me: my mental health is more important than you lot, your fucking pretense business expectations, your greed and your wages, which I can get anywhere else also! Thank you very much and bye

Toucanplaysguitar · 01/08/2024 20:43

Have you worked for a startup before? I have and I hated it. Too many uncertainties, too many ‘founders’ with big egos, no HR to protect you. I would think hard about whether you want this job.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 01/08/2024 20:47

As above. Approach startups, especially tech ups, with immense caution!

ShanequaAndWhat · 01/08/2024 20:48

How desperate are you for the/a job?!

I'd say no! You've had three interviews with me and you should know from that whether you feel I will be a good fit. If you don't know by now, I imagine all of your business processes will be as questionable. Fuck off! up to you if the fuck off is too far

SummerTimeIsTheBest · 01/08/2024 20:55

Run away…now!! If you get this job you’ll hate it. They’ll demand more and more and it’ll be hellish. Don’t think of this as a waste of time though, thank your lucky stars that you’ve dodged a bullet. There’s something better out there where people don’t make you jump through hoops before you even work for them.

Lalalacrosse · 01/08/2024 20:59

red Flags ahoy.

they already want you to do four roles in one, and I’d bet my left leg that they won’t be paying you the equivalent salary for the four roles.

They are poor communicators and indecisive.

They are also setting it up so they can low ball you on pay as you’re ‚not quite‘ as they want - and they’ll hold out a potential future raise that will never come.

100% poor communicators.

I've never worked at a startup but I was advised it was the easiest way to reach my career goals...

Another that says it just doesn’t seem like a fit for you

Toucanplaysguitar · 01/08/2024 21:25

If you currently work in any vaguely professional organisation I would steer well clear as it will be a huge shock. The startup I worked in promised a good salary but quite often we didn’t actually get paid on time, it was at the whim of the person ‘in charge’ of finance.

I suspect you have been misled - working for a start up usually means often insane hours, being expected to multi task, lines of responsibility blurred and management can be a bit hit and miss as often the start up owners are entrepreneurial rather than versed in HR / the boring but essential admin management bit.

If you are used to an established corporate / professional organisation it will be a culture shock.

WouldUSayImWorthy · 01/08/2024 21:55

What career goals do you have?

At a start up you might find you end up with an inflated title which looks good on your CV, but you'll work yourself to the bone for it in an unstable and stressful environment.

You also might struggle to replicate the title once you move on, if the title doesn't reflect the experience and skill set that it would usually connote in larger more established.

For example, I was made a Head Of when I was at a start up - because it was small and I was simply the most experienced person in a department of three.

xTheLoudLeaderx · 01/08/2024 21:59

What the hell ! What they are wanting to re-interview you on is surely what the can do in training if it's technical ? too much !

I want to be at least head of in 2 years, director in 3... And ideally VP in another 5...

I’d be busy washing my hair the day of the last interview. Either employ you or not. How much are they paying?
