DD 5 scared at bed time and bad dreams

I’m quite worried about my DD age 5. She’s recently scared at bed time, talking about monsters eating her. It’s not nice to hear her say this and I’ve no idea where she’s got it from. She doesn’t watch anything on YouTube etc that she might have learnt it from. She’s getting scared of the dark and never used to be. We’ve been in a new house for around 3 months so I’m not sure if it’s the move that’s unsettled her. She seems ok during the day. She wants to cuddle up to me and says she is scared. She always sometimes wakes from bad dreams. Is this normal and maybe just a phase?

Monster repellant spray.
Get some pillow mist and print off a label saying all night protection or something. A few squirts around the entrance and bed with a ‘there aren’t any monsters but this keeps you safe all night’ type of thing can work wonders.

Agree with the style of approach above.

Yes the house move could have unsettled, but also this is very common and developmentally normal. Absolutely pointless trying to rationalise with a 5yo, to them monsters are real and they'll feel more frightened if you don't believe them. It helps to tell them reassuring things like 'If there ever were monsters, mummy or daddy would scare them away'. You can read up on how to approach it online.

Kids have all sorts of fears, don't worry unduly, she will grow up in time.

My DD was similar at that age, we did monster spray! We also made a dream catcher together and hung it in her room to catch the bad dreams. These helped a little, and she did grow out of it.

This

And

Glow stars
Tony box
Weighted blanket
White noise/pink noise etc
Lavender room spray
Night light
New teddy
Change her bedroom around
'Check' for monsters before using the spray
Block out any gaps like if she has a gap under her bed fill it with toys or cushions same for her cupboards
Leave bedroom door open

Also say
' what do you want to dream about tonight' and give suggestions like going to the park, dolphins, their favourite pace etc

My friend, when her son was around that age, would get him to draw the fear (often a witch!) , then they'd screw up the paper and throw the witch in the bin - it worked wonders!
