Worth buying the fast 800 12 wk plan?

JulyMume · 30/07/2024 23:46

It’s £119 and truthfully that’s a lot of money for me. I could pay for it and cut down on some things so it’s not impossible but my worry is that I pay for it then realise it’s a waste of money. So please tell me what you think of you have used - worth getting or not?

What do you get for that? I borrowed the books from the library and decided on intermittent fasting and calorie counting instead.

AgathaMystery · 30/07/2024 23:48

Is this the meal replacement shakes? If so I have the NHS Fast 800 ones and if you want them, you can have them. They are 3 huge tubs. I think chocolate and vanilla flavour. If you want to pay for postage just DM me, you are so welcome to them!

CherriesBerriesAndBananas · 30/07/2024 23:49

No. I thought I would stick to it because I paid. I lasted 5 days. It is way too strict

JulyMume · 30/07/2024 23:51

Sorry no it’s a 12 week eating plan and like a support group. It doesn’t really tell you much on the website. It’s a 7 days free trial but I have to put my credit card details in and I know I will forget to cancel so it will be ongoing!

@AgathaMystery so sweet of you x

Buy the book.it's around £4 on Abe booksadvantage over the library option is that you have it throughout he journey.

wandawaves · 30/07/2024 23:53

If I ever have to sign up for things I put an alarm in my phone for when I have to cancel!

Personally I have successfully used the fast800 books, no need for the online thing.

Not sweet at all - I’d love it to be used!

You can def do it from the books alone. No need to spend £119 at all.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 30/07/2024 23:56

There's a very active Facebook support group with recipe ideas, too.

JulyMume · 30/07/2024 23:58

Thank you everyone! I just googled fast 800 and lots of recipes have come up.

Save your money!

Cut out or minimise carbs and sugars.
Fill up with veggies, salad and fruits.
Fats and meat (protein) will fill you up and are nutritious. Eggs are very good for you.

Moderate exercise.

Intermittent fasting is simply having a window for eating and not eating the rest of the time. Drink water not sugary stuff or booze.

Simples and forget the calories. Focus on nutrient dense foods and allocate a cheat day so you don't go doolally.

Good luck.

AmusedRoseCrow · 31/07/2024 04:29

I bought it and managed 11 days. Way too strict and I felt really unwell - headaches and v lethargic. I couldn’t push through it. I didn’t find the community aspect very helpful either so for £120 I wouldn’t recc it sadly. I’ve had more success with slimming world

3CustardCreams · 31/07/2024 04:38

Waste of money.
Flavahans jumbo porridge oats for breakfast.
Protein with vegetables for lunch and dinner. Ie chicken breast. Salmon. Small amount of rice/quinoa optional in addition.
Snack- small amount of nuts. Piece of fruit

Do this for 2 weeks then reassess. It’s not tasty but you won’t be hungry and it’s doable.

Toooldforthis36 · 31/07/2024 06:12

Steer clear of the shakes - really awful,
and I can handle most stuff like that….

Wallywobbles · 31/07/2024 06:27

Not what you are asking but....

I watched the Michael Mosley documentary on fasting and found it inspiring.

Then I joined a free forum for advice.

I went low carb at the same time which IS fairly expensive as a family.

I did loose a lot of weight though.

Choose 2 days where you are busy and away from easy food. And work out the least painful way to eat 500 calories those 2 days. Learn to love eggs.

Hobbes8 · 31/07/2024 06:36

There’s plenty of weight loss threads on here if you want an online community. F800 is very difficult and 12 weeks is a long time to do it for, but the actual science behind it isn’t complicated so I don’t think you need to fork out loads of money.

Shockvote · 31/07/2024 06:59

I’d be surprised if you can’t pick up the basic principles for free online from different sources.

If you can get the books, I do recommend them. It has a lot of explanation in there that helped me stay in track because then I knew why I was doing the things I was doing. It also helped having all the recipes and macros in front of me so that I could make sure I balanced the macros in my meals each day so that I had overall the right amount.

PCController2 · 31/07/2024 17:57

It's a brilliant diet (I lost 5 stone on it) but you don't need to pay for the online support. Buy the book and then join the threads about it on here.

can you or anyone please give me an idea of what you ate in a typical day?

Protein and salad/veg was/is my easiest go to meal. And it's a good habit to get into anyway as it's so healthy, I still have this for lunch most days even though I'm no longer actively doing the fast800 (I've lost the weight I wanted to except for just 2kg!).

Basically... I'd fast until around 11am, have protein and salad/veg, then nothing until dinner (while getting used to it I might have a small snack in the arvo, but not after the first week or so), dinner would be protein and salad/veg, or other stuff from the book, for eg healthy curries, healthy fajitas/tacos, stir fries, stroganoff.... these were all great for the family because you would serve without the carbs for yourself, then have the rice/pasta/wraps etc for the family.

I lost 12kg doing this. 😀

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 27/03/2025 07:03

I know this is an old thread but I'm just coming on to say a huge thank you to all those who said 'just buy the books'. I signed up for the trial but found it very prescriptive, which didn't suit me. It recommended that I start on 5:2 which I followed (sort of, but I ate as much as I liked). I added in time restricted eating but only for 12 hours.

I'm astonished to have lost a stone in 10 days and it's been very straightforward. I ended up buying 3 recipe books because the meals have been so good. hanks again.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 27/03/2025 07:06

The books have lots of nice recipes but the programme was definitely not worth it. I cancelled it after two days of the trial.
