With my eldest I took a week's annual leave but she was fine within a couple of days and didn't actually need a week to focus on it. With my second I didn't have annual leave to spare and we did it over a long weekend (I have Mondays off anyway).

We started over a long weekend and nursery supported us when DS was 27 months. It took a while (months) for him to become consistent. Life is too fun. Remember it takes an average of 6 months to potty train. ERIC is great. Some children train in a few days / weeks but others take longer.

At just turned 3. Got a potty that looked like a little toilet. Encouraged them to go to the potty when we were on the loo for a chocolate button. Potty trained whilst in nappies and then switched to pants because I didn't want to deal with soiled pants. Once they were doing plenty of wees and poos in the potty switched to pants from one Saturday morning and they had pretty much got the idea by then- only one or two accidents.

With my first son the month he turned 3 he decided he wanted out of nappies and we just went with it. I didn't take any annual leave, just a weekend. it and that was a terrible idea, long and messy (6 months end to end). Nursery were not happy with me because he had lots of accidents.

Second son I read a book the nursery gave me and a weeks annual leave. I felt uncomfortable with the strictness of the strategy and the child wasn't really on board. So it was difficult at the start, but he was trained within 3 days and only had one accident on day 7 which was his 3rd birthday.

I'm no expert but I guess this is a massive transition for a small child and they need to be led very precisely.
