To find a holiday with something for everyone?

I'm trying to find a holiday in Spain (or Balearics) so my eldest can practice his Spanish that makes everyone in the family happy - does such a place exist or do we need to find a compromise? We want a naice hotel with great food and outdoor pool (not all inclusive) that's within walking distance of shops & restaurants and a bit of culture/history. The oldest 2 kids (14 and 12) want the pool to have slides and the youngest (7) wants a beach. My DP thinks I'm dreaming and we'd need to do a city break then go to a resort - is he right? Am I AIBU to expect all this in one place or does such a place exist?

Cala D’or Majorca would tick most of those boxes. Probably unlikely to get a naice hotel with slides though.

Menorca? Cuitadella and Mahon have lots of history.

Peurto pollensa. Hotel down pine walk is good for kids. Pollensa old town, Alicudia old town and Soller are all easy journeys

I have stayed at the Hotel Las Arenas Balneiario in Valencia before and liked it a lot. It has multiple great pools, it's on the beach and walking distance to shops and restaurants.

I'm in majorca now and we have practiced Spanish but all the road signs and most people speak catalonia which is quite confusing for us. Last year we did a road trip - madrid-malaga-san jose- grenada for 10 days and spoke spanish, went to a beach. Hired villas on airbnb as there are 5 of us it was cheaper so they all played in the pool

What about a villa somewhere like Menorca with a private pool, near good restaurants. Then you can do day trips for the culture and visit a waterpark for the teens?

I say Puerta Pollenca as well. Lovely resort, lovely beach, nice hotels

I would agree. We've found a villa with decent sized pool this year, close to beaches, water park and nice shopping and restaurants which has pleased the teens! But not in Spain, so I can't recommend one. But it's a formula that works in lots of places.

Thanks everyone some great ideas thank you so much! Lots to look into there. Yes @stickingatit it's for next year, ideal budget about £6k.

Would you consider a campsite? We have stayed on Sandaya campsites in France but they also have a couple in Spain. The premium lodges are very nice and there would be a restaurant, and lots have pools with slides. I think there is one in the Costa Brava near estartit which looks good.

Allcamps is another good website for.looming up different sites.

mitogoshi · 30/07/2024 22:40

They speak Catalan in Mallorca I think? If you want pure Castilian Spanish you are better off further west. Plenty of places fit your remit except naice is subjective, for me I want good food, not just buffet but I also quick like if to be ai... on your budget it would be hard in school holidays though.

I believe in Mallorca they speak both the King's Spanish (castillano) and Catalonian (catalan). Like in Valencia.

To practice Spanish, it's better to stick to the mainland of Spain and particularly inland more. Salamanca is supposed to be the best place to learn Spanish from what I have heard.

Andalusia is our favourite Spanish region. But again, their Spanish pronunciation of missing out the s is not great for someone wanting to practice.

My first thought was if you want anyone to learn Spanish cut out any hotels or results with slides
