Some 'good' news at last. The paedophile Huw Edwards, the public face of our public service broadcaster, has been charged with sexual offences. He's hidden in the Priory for more than a year whilst trousering his full salary from the BBC and claiming his mental illness made him download child pornography. I thought he was going to get away with it, but somebody at the CPS has had the guts to charge this moron. Thank god.

Far from being a moron, it goes to show how manipulative and clever sex offenders can be. They will groom others into trusting them, portray themselves as kind, get themselves into a position of respectability and won’t be afraid to play the mental health card to hide their offending. They are not only found at the BBC but in many highly thought of institutions. I hope his victims get some sort of justice.

Extraordinary the amount of people on this thread who don't seem at all bothered about this awful bloke's activities, but get hot under the collar when he is referred to as WELSH. Which he is. He is WELSH.

I'm more concerned about Huw receiving the 'justice' he deserves. Still, sharing a cell with a big hairy trans guy probably won't bother him too much. At least that pompous air of his has been punctured through his own hypocrisy. He really is the lowest of the low. Spare a thought for those he has injured, not least his own five children

I feel so, so sorry for his wife (now STBX) Vicky Flind.

When the allegations came out last year she went to bat for him, acted as his spokesperson, stood between him and the media whilst he was in hospital.

She has been so, so betrayed.

Yes he is, but that is completely irrelevant to the awful crime he has allegedly committed. ( I say allegedly for legal reasons, not expressing an opinion on his guilt either way).

The two of them were trousering nearly three-quarters of a million pounds a year between them and I'm sure being Mrs. Huw Edwards resulted in lots of status and fabulous invitations. I do not think she can have known the extent to it but I simply find it impossible to believe that she didn't suspect something. In his last years he got very careless with the images. There were rumours all over the BBC that he behaved inappropriately with junior members of staff and as Ms Flind works there, it is unlikely she didn't pick up on it. She did, after all, produce a news programme.

You reference his nationality in your first three words, you don’t even mention his awful crime .

Why do you need to mention his nationality?

Why would I describe Huw as Nigerian or Pakistani when he is WELSH? By the way, all the newspapers refer to him as the Welshman. Seems he had a lovely Welsh pal as well who was keeping him fed with images of kiddies.

No, it is NOT. You need to follow the rolling news as the whole sorry story and all the cover-ups emerges. Apparently virtually the whole BBC thought HE had got above himself, was exhibiting inappropriate behaviour to junior employees of a sexual nature. He was a real brown noser but apart from that had few friends. Mrs Huw has spent her entire career at the Beeb and it is beyond the realms of probability that she did not pick up on ANY of this. In addition, she doesn't work on Watch with Mother, she was and is a producer of hard hitting news programmes. Of course she must have known.

More to the point though, I think the way you’ve talked about his wife is horrible. As I’ve said, as far as we know, she is innocent. Yet you describe her as someone who is obsessed with money and status (‘trousering three quarters of a million’; ‘being Mrs. Huw Edwards resulted in lots of status and fabulous invitations’). And what good does it do to speculate on what she knew and what she didn’t about his crimes? It’s speculation that’s not rooted in any fact, and she can’t defend herself and say what she knew or not, and nor should she feel the need to, because she’s not the one being convicted - her husband is.

No, I don't. There has to be a huge outcry about this so that Huw gets the maximum sentence and the BBC is held to account for paying for the last year. And then there's all the sanctimonious media luvvies - yes Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel I mean you - who were defending him last year. The Sun did the job they should have done as he was right under their nose.

You would describe a paedophile as a paedophile & leave his nationality or race out of it so instead of Pakistani, Welsh, asian, Irish whatever -you would use the word paedophile or criminal otherwise it's a racial slur as nationality not relevant.
Welsh & Irish casual slurs seem okay even to people who are so careful not be racist in other contexts

I don’t think a few posters on Mumsnet are going to make much difference in changing the BBC’s stance on this. We’re not going to be able to create much of an outcry. I don’t think we’ll cause any sleepless nights for the BBC.

You cannot seriously still be going on about him being referred to as Welsh - as every newspaper is doing. When he changes his nationality, be sure to let me know.
