Apologies not really an aibu just need a quick answer.

Can a pharmacist look at an injured elbow? No obvious injury, just sore and unusually clicky after a bump.

I’d say not

Cornettoninja · 29/07/2024 09:43

They might be able to recommend some things to make it more comfortable/aid healing but I imagine they’ll recommend it being seen by a doctor or minor injuries if there’s one near you.

RenegadeMasterx · 29/07/2024 09:44

They'll likely redirect you to a&e or GP.

LlamaNoDrama · 29/07/2024 09:53

Thanks, I wasn't sure it was something a pharmacist could help much with. No GP appts left. Feels a bit dramatic to go to a&e. Suppose I could try 111

Call 111 to get advice, or try Minor Injuries if you have one in your area. A&E is for severe injuries/life threatening emergencies.

Choconuttolata · 29/07/2024 10:04

Do you have a minor injuries unit nearby?

Dotto · 29/07/2024 10:05

Not A&E unless you don't have a minor injuries with x-ray clinic running

the80sweregreat · 29/07/2024 10:10

They will probably advise you to get it X rayed or suggest an elbow support ( which they may sell ) and possibly painkillers or ibuprofen.

TroysMammy · 29/07/2024 10:13

A pharmacist can look to see if any swelling, redness or sign of infection, suggest pain relief or direct you to GP. If signs of infection ring your surgery and advise what pharmacist said (ask pharmacist to take photo on your phone first). If not request pre-bookable consultation or if it's an injury Minor Injury Unit if you have one or A&E.

Also depends how long ago you bumped your elbow as MIU can be funny about timescales.

LlamaNoDrama · 29/07/2024 10:36

We need an appt to access MI! It used to be walk in but not anymore. Going to wait and see if we can get in with the gp tomorrow. Mondays are always a bit manic at surgeries.

NHS 111 can make such appointments, though. You'll get seen faster that way.
