Does anyone wear swimming headphones? I'm trying to get back into a hobby I used to enjoy and think this will help.

Anyone with the aftershockz, do they still work if you wear ear plugs? I assume they should

Yep! They work better actually

In fact from memory they actually come with a pair. You get a consistent sound above and below water with ear plugs

I've had a couple of fairly basic waterproof MP3 players with headphones. Like this:

AGPTEK IPX8 Waterproof Mp3 Player with Screen, Multi-Functional Clip Music Player with Waterproof Headphones for Surfing Swimming Water Sports https://amzn.eu/d/05pg6P0z

They've worked fine but finding mp3s to put on them has been a pita. I have a Spotify subscription and can download onto my phone. Anyone found a solution to a waterproof player or headphones I can download Spotify to?

@NamelessNancy mighty do a waterproof version https://bemighty.com/products/waterproof-mighty-vibe

It can do offline Spotify. You'd need separate headphones though. Bluetooth from mighty to shokz might work if you clipped it on the band.

I've never tried mighty before because they haven't added more streaming services so I don't know how good it is!

Mighty is the first and only device that plays your streaming music, like Spotify, on-the-go without a smartphone. And through help from our friends at AudioFlood, now you can take your music in the pool, ocean, river, lake or just running in a downpou...

How does everyone get MP3's onto them these days? I haven't put music onto an mp3 player in yeeears. Everything is streamed and I use Apple Music, podcasts etc. How do I get anything onto these headphones? I have audiobooks on my iPhone which I've bought but you can't put these onto an mp3 player can you?

EasilyDisturbed · 31/07/2024 23:58

I've been wondering about this, I only use a phone and ipad at home now, but have got an old mac which we used years ago to download music onto our phones, however I mainly use audio books and podcasts now not music. I don't want my phone on poolside (too much theft) and do put my head under so bluetooth no good.

stickthewellyin · 01/08/2024 08:08

This is my issue. I have an iPhone and iPad and I stream everything through Spotify or audible so without using Bluetooth I'm not sure how I can get anything onto any headphones. I would leave my phone by the side of the pool but I understand the Bluetooth won't work if my head is underwater.

shumbuffler · 01/08/2024 08:13

I have the Shoxz bone conduction ones (not bluetooth) I found them not loud enough so now I wear them with swimming ear plugs and they're brilliant!

I download podcasts from my laptop very easily.

Make swimming much more enjoyable!

Most of the underwater headphones are mp3 players

Yes @stickthewellyin and I are asking the same question though- how do you get MP3's on them in an age of streaming? I haven't transferred an mp3 file in about a decade

Giraffel · 01/08/2024 09:20

You can still buy digital music to download, places like qobuz and Juno have a good selection. You could also use less legitimate means if you wanted.

shumbuffler · 01/08/2024 09:21

creamcheeseplease I download podcasts as an MP3 file (I use Podbean)

Then connect my headphones to my laptop and drag and drop the files in.

stickthewellyin · 01/08/2024 09:35

Is it possible to get anything onto these headphones using only an iPhone or an iPad?

Hopefully my husband has ports on his computer to do this as I have a MacBook Pro

InfoSecInTheCity · 01/08/2024 10:25

@Creamcheeseplease have a MacBook too with just the USB-C ports and got one of these, it's really useful as I have a few other things I connect like memory sticks and a little gizmo my daughter got for coding.

GlasgowGal82 · 01/08/2024 13:49

Is there not an issue with bluetooth connections being disrupted by water? I thought you needed to upload music onto the headphones because the connection between a device poolside and headphones going in and out of the water would constantly be disrupted? From what some posters have said I wonder if I am wrong about this.

EasilyDisturbed · 01/08/2024 14:04

I have one of those USB connector things but I am still not sure how you would load things like audio books and podcasts which rely on apps to an mp3 device. We do still have an old mp3 music library on a mac but I only really listen to spoken word, music would be just as boring as swimming in silence for me.

100% agree. I want to listen to audiobooks while I swim ideally

I have waterproof Bluetooth Jaybird headphones and the Bluetooth works fine. I position the Bluetooth bit right in the back of my head so it doesn't cut out. I swim in a 25m pool and leave my phone on the side.
I got them from John Lewis a couple of years ago to get a 2 year warranty. I paid about £120

Being able to easily listen to podcasts means I swim for an hour rather than getting boarded after a while.

I don't understand why so few people seem to swim with headphones.

I can listen to live radio or podcast or music from my phone. I couldn't be bothered having to upload music to an mp3 player.

Gloooooop · 01/08/2024 22:32

This is the type I use and I've highlighted the Bluetooth bit that I position on the back of my head. I'm not sure the headphones where the Bluetooth unit is on the ear would work as well.

Seconding the recommendation upthread for this one, I’ve been using this for over 2 years and the best I have had.

For usage instructions best to look at the Q&A’s on Amazon

Have been using maybe 25 different waterproof MP3’s, of varying makes, over 15 years. This is the best so far.

Yes, still a pain to download tracks via the laptop though! (Looking for other solutions).

I bought cheap ones off Shein for now, but wanted to make sure I’d use them before upgrading to Aftershoks. They are OK but as I stream all my music these days it was a bit of a pain in the arse getting music onto them. I had to resurrect my old iTunes account and convert the songs to MP3. Apparently Bluetooth doesn’t work well in water and I think some of the Aftershoks ones are MP3
only anyway.
