Anyone else think their 13 year old is a bit of an asshole?

Wow. Parenting has never been less fun!

Attitude. Constant naysaying. Refusal to do stuff without answering back unless it's completely on their terms. Would be glued to phone if allowed. Wants to do fuck all except laze around. I feel like we're constantly telling them off, even when we are trying our absolute best to be patient and understanding of where they're at. We do try to pick our battles but they're a force of nature.

But it makes for a pretty rubbish atmosphere.

Anyone else?

I was lucky with my eldest when he was 13 (he’s 16 now and well, I’ll say nothing …) He was biddable, polite, if a bit lazy and intransigent at times. But never, ever rude. I am not, however, looking forward to what his brother will be like at 13. He is 12 and has an answer for everything. NEVER does anything he doesn’t want to without a huge battle. Also very sensitive, so if I point out that he has been a bit rude, he gets very defensive and sometimes upset to the point of tears.

I remember our lovely, elderly neighbour coming to the door and having a chat with me when I was about 13. She had heard me shouting back at my mum and said we should both look after each other because we were both at very difficult stages - me as a hormonal teen, Mum around ‘the change’ as it was called then. My youngest is ME! God help me.
