Breast implant removal / explant

namechangeforexplant · 27/07/2024 20:40

I’ll start by saying, I was a different person 15 years ago and if I could turn back time and stop myself from having breast implants, then I would!

I want to have my implants removed without replacing. For a number of reasons but mainly because I live a much more natural lifestyle now and hate the thought of a foreign object hanging around in my body, they’re coming towards the end of their life span and don’t look amazing any more anyhow. I also want to avoid future surgeries. I also do not want my children to think they should copy and have any sort of surgery! I regret my implants so much.

So, the AIBU! I have had a few people (including a surgeon) suggest that I had implants for a reason and I may be unhappy once removed. I find this surprising but perhaps I’m absolutely kidding myself?! I just want them gone.

YABU - you are kidding yourself, you will probably be unhappy

YANBU - it’s the right decision!

Any other breast implant removal stories would be a bonus

Hey!

Welcome to the explant club 🥰 I could have written this post word for word.

Had implants at 18 and then 10 years later, realised I was a totally different person with no desire for big fake boobs anymore.

I decided to explant. No lift. Just removal.

Like yourself, I was advised by people and surgeons that I may be disappointed or not like the look of them.

Honestly? It was the BEST decision. The first time I saw myself after the surgery I cried with happiness. They were not perfect but omg it felt good to be naturally me again. I couldn't stop cupping them!

It's now been a year and they look and feel better than ever. I absolutely adore my natural boobies.

Sending you the strength to go ahead with tbis procedure.

You won't look back xxx

Some breast surgeons really cannot see beyond the look of the breasts. They are doing great craftsmanship. They don't get your point of view. They don't need to. You won't regret it.

Skyrainlight · 27/07/2024 21:00

Loads of people are now having explants, I've seen a few vids on youtube about it, if you want some reassurance check out sophia esperanza explant. I don't think implants are healthy at all, I think you are making the right decision to have them removed.

Bonbontutu · 27/07/2024 21:05

Explant and uplift done recently and I'm really pleased with the results.

Given the time you've had yours, I would guess that there's a strong chance that you had textured implants which are recalled now due to their link with BIA ALCL cancer. Please check if you do and keep a record of the implant serial numbers.

If you have these, you should go to a surgeon who will remove as much as the scar capsule as possible (capsulectomy).

Get 'em out and enjoy your lovely small boobs!

Chypre · 27/07/2024 21:05

My friend has explanted Allegran implants that were recalled by the FDA. Certain models have strong links with chronic inflammation process and other complications in the body. You might look into your specific implant model to see if those are deemed as safe at all.

Definitely do it OP if you are feeling like this.

I got implants in 2009, and had them taken out in 2013. Like you I felt weird having a foreign object in my body, I hated that I couldn't sleep on my side, and also they felt a bit cold. I also felt quite frumpy with them as I have a small frame and they just made me look bigger. It seems stupid that I didn't think of those things beforehand, but I was young and insecure and thought they would make me feel better but they didn't really.

Thankfully I never had any major issues with them, but just felt really self conscious after a while and just wanted them gone.

I was a bit nervous at first, and to be honest my breasts looked really empty and flat for the first few weeks, but thankfully they bounced back a good bit over time and I'm happy with them now. I'm so glad I no longer have them in, I love my small breasts - they are soft and warm and squishy and they're all mine!

If you are really worried about they will look after you could ask to get a removal and uplift or something.

Oh just the thread I needed!
I am planning to have mine removed next year (when new annual leave starts at work)
I’ve had mine since January 2008 so will have had them 17 years by the time I get them removed.
At the hospital I had the initial surgery (Nuffield) I have been quoted over 10k for each of the following

  • breast implant replacement
  • just a removal
  • removal with uplift
the same price…. Which ever option I choose. Which I find really odd.

Id love to have them just removed but I think I’m almost certain I will get an uplift.
Just need to find somewhere to have it done. Have you picked where you will have your surgery @namechangeforexplant or will you go back to the same hospital you had your initial surgery?
also what cc implants did everyone have?
mine are 300cc and they are Nagor enhance.

Another thing to bear in mind that once they are gone, your future mammograms will show so much more information! The implants hide a large amount of breast tissue even with the latest techniques and technology.

Pussycat22 · 27/07/2024 23:21

Minniemouse85 , you are paying for the skill of the surgeon no matter what you have done, the skill of the anaesthetist to keep you asleep and the care of all other staff to make sure you are well cared for. Private healthcare ain't cheap.

Thank you so much for sharing! So good to hear from others as I don’t know anyone in real life that removed their implants. I feel excited to have them out!!

Can totally relate to the frumpy feeling! Am slim and feel like I just don’t need a big bust, it doesn’t suit!

How strange the price is the same for all options, I haven’t found that at all. I have found an uplift pretty much doubles the cost.

I imagined I would have the removal plus an uplift at the same time but I have seen a surgeon and they do not recommend this as it’s hard to get a good result technically. The advice is to let my breasts settle for 6 months and that I may be pleasantly surprised, if not, I can then have an uplift. I am keen to avoid more surgeries and complications so therefore I am swaying towards just the removal and hopefully I will be happy.

I also have 300cc, I had very little before implants which I think is actually helpful. I have been looking at before & afters on RealSelf and have been surprised at how few mastopoexy / uplift scars there are.

ah I imagined I would have the removal and uplift at the same time too but I haven’t actually had a consultation with a surgeon yet. I follow someone on social media who was told to do that and luckily she’s really happy and doesn’t want the uplift. And she looks great! Like you op I don’t want to keep having surgeries. I’m currently using all my 25 days annual leave for school holidays so having this done next year isn’t ideal.

amyshep · 28/07/2024 07:38

I had mine removed and not replaced about 15 years ago. No regrets.

The good thing about having removal only, is that recovery is quicker and I was told I would be fine to go back to work after a week and get on with normal things. Exercise however, I’ll need to wait 6 weeks.

Can you wfh?

Someone I follow on instagram had hers removed - she’s very responsive to messages so would probably answer any questions too! imgur.com/gallery/sara-x-mills-her-story-on-breast-implants-Lrn5Wdl

gingersnappz · 28/07/2024 11:02

Had mine removed about 10 years ago now due to them leaking.

Was worried I'd hate it but realise now how out of proportion I looked with them in and like a PP, no regrets at all.
