To ask if anyone else doesn't see the appeal of "Travelling"

So many on MN talk about doing lots of travelling in their 20s. Or their DC "going travelling."

Anyone else not see the appeal of backpacking round Asia sharing hostels with randoms and eating authentic street food?

I've worked abroad but that was an office job not picking fruit or working on a cattle ranch in Australia.

I love going on holiday but like coming home after a fortnight ... months on the road don't appeal.

Anyone else?

I went on lots of holidays when I was younger, including a fair bit of East Asia, Mexico and all over Europe.

I never called it 'travelling', because that was what the wealthier people who didn't have to get back on X or Y date and go to work did, but I can't really see why my visits were any less valid or worthwhile than theirs (especially having talked to some of them who spent the entire time with other tourists travellers).

No appeal at all now. After that plus extensive travel for work over the last few years until covid, if I never see the inside of an airport again I wouldn't care, although living in central London I suppose I have a lot more variety on my doorstep than I would otherwise.

@Bertsmum22

what exactly do you mean by “home comforts”? What things specifically are you referring to?

I guess my own comfy bed, towels, not having to put toilet paper in a bin, being able to drink water from the tap, having my car to drive on the side of the road I am used to. Just stuff like that! I am sure I’d adjust but it doesn’t appeal!
