Am I just really fucking ignorant about moths?

I bought a voile window panel from a famously cheap shop. It looks fine, does the job, but seems to be quitely breeding moths. It is almost transparent, has no shady corners, but - I go to bed at night with no moth action, get up in the morning to a handful of little brown moths on the window sill under the curtain, some dead, some very much not so. They are about 1cm long, sometimes a bit more - how could they grow like that overnight? I have a twin voile right next to it from the same source - no moths there. What am I missing?

They are probably breeding somewhere else. They like wool and delicate fabrics. There will be tiny maggots somewhere. They come out in the evening/night to look for mates. The voile is probably their night club where they all hang out and make eyes at each other. You need to have a good hunt around, then hoover as much as possible and ideally put everything through a super hot wash, and steam/iron everything so that it kills the eggs.

Main types will be clothes moths or pantry moths.
Pantry moths (brownish grey) are attracted to any food like toast or biscuit crumbs, food for your hamster, etc. Clothes moths (tend to be pale) will have a go at fabric in the caterpillar stage.

Wiping things down with white vinegar can help. They also hate the smell of herbs like lavender and rosemary, so that’s a nicer alternative to smelly mothballs.

If you’re sure they came in the voiles, put the voiles in a bag and put them in the freezer overnight to kill off any other unhatched moths.
