It’s £20.95 per adult to walk around our Christmas light trail this year. Tickets have just been released. It does look fantastic, but it’s only a mile long.

It’s £15.95 for a 3-15 year old, and free for under 2s.

They’re doing family tickets, 2 adults and 2 kids for £60.

I think it’s sad that at some point soon these activities are reserved for only those who can afford them. Maybe that has always been the case and I have been living under a rock but as someone who is pregnant with their first, I can’t see how families aren’t bankrupt over the school holidays and festive periods just simply from doing these kinds of activities! As with anything, the more DC you have the more it bumps the price up. I know you can intersperse them with free things to do, but I’m sure lots of families at Christmas will feel compelled to pay over the odds just to make it a nice and magical time.

We will likely go. It will be nice for baby’s first Christmas. £40 for us and an under 2 would be affordable right now but I can imagine when you have two in primary the cost must get crazy.

AIBU thinking these companies are taking the mick?

I'd expect it to be expensive as it must cost £££ to put on. It's roughly the same as our local kids farm and a lot less than a theatre trip. Still we're not going this year as need to cut our cloth!

That’s actually quite cheap compared with others

I wouldnt take a baby and toddler. Wait until they’re older, they won’t appreciate being out after dark in the cold…speaking from experience

The one that got me and was a really hard no was the Harry Potter light experience thing.

We've done the expensive Christmas lights before. And baulked at the price but had been told they were exceptional (Longleat was amazing - we timed it so we went to the park before dusk so it worked out more worthwhile and I have done others).

But I do feel the price has gone past what I'd pay for places I've been before. And I do think the Harry Potter event was just a total rip off.

I think they are starting to hit the ceiling with prices tbh. In the past they've been sold out, but I think that will start to change in the next year or two.

oh @ALittleDropOfRain this sounds idyllic. How lovely

The problem is that people will generally pay it, even if it's a bit of a struggle, because they don't want their dc to miss out.

We could afford it, but I wouldn't do it on principle as it feels like a rip-off.
I'd rather drive around the streets where we live, looking at the ones that are famous for their Christmas lights.

Until more people vote with their feet, and don't attend, most companies will keep upping their prices and that won't change until people actually stop going.
