To scam pet insurance

I'm having a problem with my kitten and I'm worried he may need surgery. We have an appointment later today. It's with a new vet and I haven't mentioned him seeing a previous vet already for the same concern. He didn't have insurance at that time as I'd just got him days previously. I have him insured now for £3000 treatment costs, but it will not cover him for anything that started before I took it out. Will the insurance company be able to find bis previous record ?

Can’t agree more that £3k isn’t enough. I found out the hard way

@Kay286

But the fraud will be when you try and claim and they ask the date this was initially symptoms presented /diagnoses/ noted by a vet - which is the first vet … before you had coverage . Also it will be a huge red flag to the insurer a diagnosis/claim just after policy inception …. So additional validation will be required because we know people do this :)
I doubt any insurance co will find anything. It's a kitten. It must be pretty young therefore and it's completely reasonable to assume the current vet is the only vet this young animal has ever been seen by.

It's been 6 weeks with insurance since claiming.

I think technically they should cover it really because he could have eaten something again, and we don't know if it's from previously or not

I'm sorry your kitten is sick. Hopefully he will just get better on his own.

However, if you are going to make a claim then I don't think you should kid yourself that it is an ok thing to do. You sound like you are trying to kid yourself by saying things like 'technically they should cover it' You know it's wrong so if you do it then just do it and accept what you are doing . You would have to lie on the claims form. They will ask if when you've seen a vet and they will ask about his symptoms.

TheRakesTale · 25/07/2024 09:44

You do not sound like a responsible pet owner. You also ask if it's ok to commit insurance fraud
Jeez

serialcatbuyer · 25/07/2024 09:44

I've just got back. The vet felt his tummy and said he is happy there is nothing wrong. He said it could be the dry food and to try changing it back or to add water to it so it isn't swelling up in his stomach. I am relieved but still feeling a bt unsure as the other vet had been talking about doing scans

@TheRakesTale I don't know how I'm irresponsible I pay their constant vet fees

As an insurer, please do not do this.Firstly it is fraud and immoral. Secondly we do have ways of detecting the fraud and you will be high on our fraud indicator list, thirdly there is a clause in most policies preventing early claims.

Trust what this vet has said. If there was an obstruction the kitten would be unwell, uncomfortable and not be eating. The other vet was being overzealous.

@RickyGervaislovesdogs it’s not a sarky face , it’s a smile because it’s such a common fraud , new policy, immediate claim , glaring fraud indicator right there , the smile was to gently confirm it we know it happens !

I’m a fraud manager but wouldn’t come on and gently add smiley faces when someone is worried about their pet- but you do you. 😊

But @serialcatbuyer glad to hear the kitten is ok, that’s the main thing.
Some vets will go down the most expensive route immediately, so beware. EG my dog had an ear infection, first vet wanted an MRI, I asked what for and he stuttered and said well, it could show nothing. Then it was anaesthetic and an ear flush (dog is elderly). Went elsewhere £70 steroids- sorted.

Kay286 · 25/07/2024 11:21

@RickyGervaislovesdogs I do and did 😂 not sure it’s it’s relevant to the job though :)

@PuddlesPityParty I’ve worked for a global insurer for over 10 years , various roles with progression each time - few years ago an internal role within the fraud team came up (lower scale ) took that then studied financial crime and fraud and progressed roles within the team to now an investigator - I love it ! Super interesting investigated small few thousand value to complex over 20 million losses

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 25/07/2024 12:52

I would strongly advise against this. Its fraud. They might not find out. But if they do, there are all sorts of implications. You might not be able to buy reasonably priced insurance for anything again for the foreseeable future. In some cases they prosecute to make an example. And you've just left an electronic trail confirming you planned it rather than 'forgot'. You're not just defrauding the insurer - you're defrauding all the other customers who pay extra in their premiums to cover fraud detection and pay fraudulent claims

MrsSpoonOfButtonMoon · 25/07/2024 13:04

Have nothing to add re insurance claims...but, one of mines is a puker and found that sourcing grain free food helped with this. Please keep your insurance up to date and annual check ups though as regular puking can cause Dental issues which can be costly. My insurance policy only covered Dental if regular checks and any recommended maintenance were conducted.
