DS going to Spain soon. Please tell me THE best way of paying while he’s out there. Had been told about the Post Office Travel money card but recent reviews on the app don’t fill me with confidence.

Apologies, asking here for traffic as it’s been some years since I went abroad!

DS is going to Spain next week and will be staying with his friend’s family.

I’m going to send him with some Euros but rather than using his bank card while he’s out there is there a better option? Have been told about the Post Office travel card, which we could add money to but the recent reviews state how glitchy the app is.

Any tips would be very gratefully received!

I’ll buy you all a ‘virtual’ ice cream as a thank you! 🙏🏻

Thanks for all of your advice. So cash is king in that area? 20 euros goes far? 🙏🏻😃

Yes. What you need to realise is that in a town near, say Valenca or Barcelona, even Madrid, there are VERY FEW cashpoint machines. People would look at you very oddly indeed if you tried to pay with a phone or an Apple watch.

He needs cash. So, 100 euros for emergencies. he leave in his room.
You are always at the end of the phone for a real emergency, lets face it.

Then, night out (with friend) 40 euros absolute max, tops. This is far too much anyway.
A meal out with the family; they will be offended if he tries to pay! He is very much a child in Spain.

Honestly.

(Unless his friend is all swanky/expat and goes on 80 euro boat trips?) I do not know the friend!

I am a very middle class mother with a child at a semi private Spanish grammar school. 40 euro a night is masses. Only one of her friends has a bank account. She is 16.
