To be fed up of neighbours ' cat coming into my garden and killing birds?

Firstly, I love cats, but a year ago I moved to a new house, it has a small garden. The neighbours moved in at same time, it's a rented house and they were in temporary accommodation before. They then got a young cat that spends a lot of time in my garden. No problem with that, but I'm frequently finding corpses of birds that it has killed. It's not only distressing, but also means that I have to them dispose of them.

The man in the relationship is not v approachable, he's always outside smoking dope which means that my house constantly stinks of dope, is not a reasonable person, is quite aggressive, and I've already had a few run ins with him over really trivial things. His partner has previously apologised to us over his behaviour and said that his dope smoking makes.him paranoid.

Obviously I can't stop the cat coming into my garden, but it's killed 2 birds in the last week and I'm really fed up of it! 😂

Is there anything I can do?

Yes a sonic device. That will see it off. Netting the fences is another way but more work.

Sling the bodies over the fence too

I have a (lovely) cat and it upsets me when he kills birds. He has a collar with a bell and still manages it! So even if your neighbour was a reasonable person, there probably wouldn't be much he could do about it, other than never letting the cat outside. Sorry that's not very helpful!

I don't even want to touch them! Yesterday I was mowing the lawn and there was a little robin hoping around looking for whatever insects the mowing had unearthed. A few hours later I found the robin's corpse in my garden.😓

I love cats but I'd be cross too. Your neighbour sounds lile a nightmare! I'm sorry 😞

Could you look into motion activated sprinklers?

That spray looks interesting. It's got worse since the neighbours then got a bloody dog. Which means that the cat ( who is not friendly, and hisses at me ), wants to spend even more time in my garden, because of this dog!

And just to reiterate, I've had lovely cats before, I'm not anti cat.

No, I know, it's what cats do. Though my last day didnt, he was too much of a lap cat.

Personally I don’t like cats or dogs they both stink and anyone who has them their house stinks in saying that you sound like a right bully with your filthy language you would not dare speak to me like that but I have to go with the other lady neighbour I just don’t like your attitude you get what you give so calm down and have a nice cup of tea because once you say those nasty words you can’t take them back.

Goldybitch · 14/04/2025 15:23

I would not mess with a dope smoker they are schizophrenics and they switch rather quickly go to the authorities about him good luck with that one I hope you get things sorted go animosily don’t let them know it’s you.

You need to remember the same cat will be keeping rats and mice out of your garden.
Lots of bigger birds also kill smaller birds, we have a local sparrowhawk who takes out a lot more birds when feeding her young than my 3 cats put together.
