To have exchanged the voucher

DM bought me a voucher for a maternity photo shoot. Honestly I find them so cringe and it’s really not me so I contacted the photographer who agreed to exchange it for a newborn photo shoot with me paying the difference.

DM said she would have happily paid for a newborn one too and it’s a shame etc etc. but surely it’s better than wasting the voucher?

Oh Jesus, I can’t stand the pregnancy photoshoots. I’m another who finds them cringeworthy and tacky as hell. Plus I’ve seen the (normal) pictures of me when I was pregnant, eg from a close friend’s birthday party. I looked like I felt: like a fat, angry whale. Really not something to be ‘immortalised’!

I have never regretted not taking any photos of my Large stomach to be honest 😂Ive never understood the appeal

Asking for a friend, when does this regret kick in, does it take more than 20 years?

36 years here ummmmm nope, nothing !
Those saying it’s a thoughtful gift , it really isn't , unless you're absolutely sure . Id’ve hated it .

I had my baby 15 years ago. No maternity shoot, no baby shower, no gender reveal. Absolutely no regrets.

Why do you think this? Do you know the OP?

Or do you actually think that deep down, most women regret not having had themselves professionally photographed during pregnancy?

Maybe it’s more to do with regretting not doing something which her Mum thought would be nice? There are lots of things which I regret not doing because I didn’t want to at the time, but which would have made my Mum happy at very little cost to me. Or maybe I’m just projecting!

Oh stop 😂

no one’s dying words have ever been “I wish I had professional maternity photos”

I am sure sure once 20 years have elapsed there are more important things to care about and will erase any slight linger of regret

I will do many things for my mum, even if I don’t want to. Posing in a bra and bedsheet with my massive belly is not one.

I do regret not getting proper newborn photos of my daughter but there's not an inch of me that regrets not having a photoshoot of my swollen self during pregnancy

Lol don’t be ridiculous, you’re entitled to want certain things like maternity photos or wedding videos and I’d never say that’s wrong for you if that’s your thing, but don’t be so patronising to say my feelings are wrong, they’re my personal opinion of what I do if don’t need in my life.

Maddy70 · 24/07/2024 23:54

I would never do a maternity shoot. Totally cringe imo. You did the right thing. Shd bought you a very lovely thoughtful gift just not right for you

caringcarer · 25/07/2024 00:08

I didn't want to be photographed when I was pregnant with hugely swollen ankles. I can clearly recall not wanting to go unless I had to during the last month of my pregnancy as I hated my ankles so much. Think very hot summer. I think.it was sensible to swap for newborn photos.
