to think mother and baby spaces...

should be for mothers with babies and toddlers, not for women with much older children (10ish) who are perfectly capable of walking and getting out of the car themselves.

i had to struggle with ds (8weeks)in a normal space because some woman parked in mother and baby with her able bodied children because she wanted to be right near the shop

Ah don't worry, you'll be fine.
Ask who the hell cod is next, then work up to how you saw a toddler eating lard.

tiredlady · 13/04/2008 15:36

who is cod? No really, I am new to all of this.

kiskideesameanoldmother · 13/04/2008 15:36

just park somewhere else and make sure you take up two spaces instead of one.

Psychomum5 · 13/04/2008 15:36

just to add here, cos I can, and not to be shouted at.......apparently these spaces are for families with any child under the age of 16yrs!!!!

DH told me this when I told him not to park in one recently and he still did......

TBF, this was early in the day, none were being used at all and it was in front of PC world so not like a supermarket that would therefore fill quickly.

IMO, I think that once they are out of pushchairs then you shouldn;t use them, altho I have been known to when with a poorly child and needing to go and get prescriptions filled from the docs etc. I have also used them when we were recovering from our car accident last year, so I try not to judge people who do use them as I just don;t now their circumstances.

however......I do reserve the right to shout and scream and rant at people who do not have kiddies with them and are also not in any way possibly pregnant either (as apparently you can also use them when pregnant too!).

frootloop · 13/04/2008 15:41

i shall take kiskidees advice and get dh to park his massive car across not 2 but 3 spaces, its just long enough to do that.

Since our Asda started policing them and put up signs everywhere threatening fines I've been able to get a space every time.

bozza · 13/04/2008 15:54

psycho at our Asda it used to say children under 5. I don't use them there and havent' for years despite having a nearly 4 year old because they are in dead end bit of the car park and you end up getting stuck. My 3yo though is quite a lithe and nimble little thing who probably finds it easier to get in and out of the car than the average able bodied adult.

Twiglett · 13/04/2008 15:56

LOL at Psychomum's DH's total bollocks .. that's why they use the pushchair symbol and refer to them as toddlers is it?

you would hear the howls of protest from our 14yo DD if he did try that one believe me!!!!

tis people with my DH's attitude that make a mockery of the baby and toddler system I find, and I am married to that kind of git person too (oh the shame).

ah well......I guess he cannot help it.....I mean, many men are still toddlers at heart aren;t they!!!!

still, it is at least preferable to me to see people using them 'selfishly' (possibly, like I said earlier you don;t always know the circumstances) with children than absolutely and wankishly without chidren.....

EyeballsintheSky · 13/04/2008 17:13

I got a stroppy note left on my windscreen last week because I parked in a P&T. Their reason was that they could see no evidence of a child in the car (despite sticker on back and two bibs and a small toy on the back seat). My defence was that I thought it best to take 13 week old dd and her car seat into the supermarket with me. They apologised

I generally park on the end of a row somewhere else. Much easier really.

Oh good some Sunday afternoon entertainment

Actually, I think I uncovered the real reason for P&T parking spaces the other day, they are actually for people who can't park and who would otherwise run up huge amounts of insurance claims due to their unfortunate disability. Or is it just near me that they are filled by people who somehow manage to park in the hatched areas around the space?

i have to say this is me i can reverse park my car into the tiniest little space no problem but if i try and reverse park into a p&t space it all goes a bit tits up dh begs me just to drive head first into the space but i like the car to be all ready to go once we come out the shop

theBOD · 13/04/2008 18:16

they are ridiculous. why anyone would observe them is beyond me. and people shouting at you for using them isn't a deterrent. it just maakes them look like a crazy person screaming in a public car park.

YABU.

I'm going to start a campaign to abolish ALL parent and child spaces and replace them with more disabled bays.

Park in the back and use your feet to get to the shop.

Naw, our grandparents sent the kids to the shops. I know, I was that kid!

Different world now.

bergentulip · 13/04/2008 18:34

Can I stir things up and say that if people cannot park in a normal bay, they should not be in possession of a driving license!! ?
Seriously!

NorthernLurker · 13/04/2008 18:46

What really annoys me is those 'drop off spaces' at the entrance - the ones that are always full of cars whose owners have 'just popped' in - for 20 minutes!

dizzydixies · 13/04/2008 18:57

or in our case normally full of panda cars
