Urgent job decision

Itsajobones · 24/07/2024 13:07

I need a quick straw poll, I completely cannot decide and in real life people can't seem to help me either.

I've been offered 2 jobs and I need to give an urgent response today to one of them

Job 1: Compliance officer within an international travel insurance company. £40,000 basic with 6 monthly bonuses but they won't say how much. 6 monthly pay reviews too and they want to progress me to £45k within 1 year. Not sure of future progression, there is 1 compliance manager who would be my boss and that's it. 25 days holiday plus birthday off and bank hols. 35 hours per week full time. LExpected to be in the office (1 hour away by car or train) 4 days per month. Very flexible happy with compressed hours and I can commute within work time.

Job 2: compliance and file checking within a financial planning company, smaller company but growing. Already has 5 UK offices. £40k basic with yearly inflation linked payrises, no cash bonus but yearly shares for staff in lieu of cash bonus. No real progression as there is just the compliance manager above me. Expected to be in the office infrequently (maybe more at first) possibly once a month thereafter. Office is a 1 hour drive away. Same holiday benefits as the other job. 36.5 hours per week full time - happy with the compressed hours I currently do.

YABU go for job 1
YANBU go for job 2

So, as far as I understand the choice is between 4 days a month office with pay progression and cash bonus vs. 1 day a month office, possibly without pay progression and bonuses. Well, do you mind traveling?
Personally, I would probably go for option 1 based on the higher earning potential with not that much travel commitment in return.

Piffpaffpoff · 24/07/2024 13:24

Option one - sounds a more structured offer and one day a week in the office is fine.

ExpectantEs · 24/07/2024 13:26

Option 1 sounds more appealing

ExhaustedGoose · 24/07/2024 13:29

Option 1

Pogggle · 24/07/2024 13:30

I would also go for option 1

weekfour · 24/07/2024 13:37

I think there's more to this. What do you like about option 2?

sadabouti · 24/07/2024 16:26

Option 1.

Itsajobones · 24/07/2024 19:04

Well I went for option 1. I decided financial planning is a safer industry than travel insurance. Rightly or wrongly. And it'll be more challenging and I'll learn more and use my relevant qualification a bit more. But it took me ages to decide, I was so torn.

So you chose the job that is less safe? I'm not sure I follow.

Sorry I meant option 2! Can't seem to edit my post.

@Itsajobones are you based in UK? And is there a way to PM you? I'm desperately looking in insurance sector and finding nothing for my skills and experience? Now that you've released the travel insurance role I hope they advertise again I can find it on LinkedIn or indeed or somewhere.

I think they had other candidates so I assume they've taken on one of them. Yes feel free to PM me.
