IVF in Spain and taking DS out of school

In early October I'm planning to abroad for an egg retrieval and freeze all cycle (they'll freeze my embryos for genetic testing before transfer). I'll need to be in Spain for 4 days before the procedure and DH will be joining me for a night or two to provide his sample. It is 5k cheaper to do IVF in Spain even with travel costs, I can't afford the cheapest clinic in the UK. For the (fingers crossed) transfer I'll go on my own for 2 nights.

DS is 5 and I'm weighing up if he should fly out with DH for a weeks holiday after the procedure. He can stay with grandparents for a few nights but I'm not sure how we'll feel at such a fraught time to be in a different country to him. We could fly back with him after 1/2 nights but that feels a bit mean. What would you do?

Cheapest clinic in the UK is £4k. Create Fertility.

And how much for the PIGD?

My 10k quote was with create with ICSI and PGD.. without meds.

As IVF goes they aren't a bad company for hidden costs but it's not as straightforward as the number on the website.

The clinic let them do that?! What a dick move by the parents and the clinic. Totally inappropriate. It’s a medical procedure, not a day out

NHS hospital ward 😫 I’m in Scotland so we get three rounds for free, which I’m obviously super grateful for, but not when the IVF ward is like a crèche 😞

Apart from missing a week of phonics, for example?

Jeez! I would do itto save him grom a week of phonics!

Personally I'd leave him at home with DH and get grandparents to come and stay for the night or two that DH needs to be away. IVF is stressful, if you respond well you are likely to feel physically pretty unwell by the time you get to EC, and for the next few days, you may well not feel up to having a holiday. 5 year olds are not the easiest travel companions, and you may find it adds unnecessary stress.

Well, private clinic or NHS it’s still ridiculous. It’s a medical ward and not a crèche. Even before you get to the emotive procedure, who wants children or toddlers around the place.
