My child has announced she wants to see Hamlet. She's nine and fairly worldly for her age -but still nine!. Cbeebies did Romeo and Juliet and that's a tragedy about sex and suicide. There's an outdoor production near us this month but would it be suitable? I am torn but currently on the side of not only might the content go over her head, she might also find it too long to sit through.

Very likely to find it boring because it will be at least 2 hours but the content isn't an issue for me.

Unless the tickets are prohibitively expensive, I’d take her. It will almost certainly be heavily abridged if it’s an outdoor production, and you can talk her through the plot beforehand.

Thanks, both of you. I hate it when children mess around at theatres. So we will see if she still wants to go with the expectation of staying to the end.
