Very long story, sorry! Two years ago I had a fall and had compression fractures of T6-T9. I’ve since had MRI scans and multiple x-rays which have shown loss of height and the development of kyphosis. I already have scoliosis, spina bifida occulta, a split spinal cord (diastematomylia) and my spinal cord is tethered. I’ve recently started experiencing some neurological symptoms including electric shocks up and down legs, leg weakness and significant leg fatigue. I’m suddenly completely unable to get out of the bath on my own and had a bad accident where I tried to pull myself up in the bath but my legs completely gave way and I slipped and broke my elbow.
I’ve seen a neurosurgeon and he has no idea why I’ve started experiencing these symptoms as my MRI doesn’t show any nerve compression and he says that my tethered spinal cord (which I’ve had since I was a child) would have started showing symptoms in my teens and not now.

I’m just wondering if the development of kyphosis is causing any of these issues? I also get extreme abdominal pain now (like the muscles of my stomach always really hurt) and really bad rib pain. I’ve also now got one arm significantly shorter than the other. I’m wondering if I should be pushing to be seen in orthopaedics to monitor the kyphosis? I’m so concerned that it’s going to progress and cause other problems as I’ve read it can cause heart and lung problems too.

Please help me!

Wouldn’t it be the spinal team rather than orthopaedics? Are you already under them due to your existing conditions and can you ring the secretary of whoever you see?

Thank you for your reply. I think you’re probably right that it would be the spinal team. Unfortunately, I’m not under any spinal team, just neurosurgery. Feel like I should be asking my GP for a referral as I feel that my scoliosis and recent development of kyphosis is being overlooked and not sure if I should be monitoring it. I get the abdomen and rib pain every day and wonder if it’s part of the reason I’ve started developing neurological symptoms.
