A random one, carpets in hotels

Please can someone help, as I’ve being going round in circles.

We are looking for a hot, cultural sightseeing holiday with a pool and carpet in the rooms
over October half term with a short flight from the U.K.

It has to have carpet as we have a baby who is so fast and constantly rushing around. I won’t relax on a wooden or tiled floor and it won’t be a holiday for me!

All the places I’ve found don’t have carpet. Please help with any suggestions! 🙏

Honestly? I think you need to unclench, sorry.

Most of a holiday is spend out of the room anyway and the pavements, pool area, restaurants etc won't be carpeted....

Do you never let baby on a hard surface at home? Out and about....ever?!

justkeepswimmng · 22/07/2024 11:29

Yes i agree with the first poster.

YouveGotAFastCar · 22/07/2024 11:31

You don't want carpet in a hotel for a crawling baby. I had to take mine for 1.5 weeks to a hotel for a work thing and the carpet made it so stressful.

You can mop wooden floors, and they're not hard enough to hurt. Carpet is often absolutely grim, and it'll be heavy-traffic carpet anyway, so it won't be much thicker than laminate.

You'll honestly save yourself a lot of stress having cleanable floors.

BarryKentPoet · 22/07/2024 11:32

I'd be more worried about a dirty hotel carpet than a hard floor!

Thetwix · 22/07/2024 11:33

Most hot countries don’t have carpeted hotel rooms, for obvious reasons. Frankly I wish carpets in Uk hotels were less common, they’re usually a bit gross. You need to get a grip, your child falling over into a hard floor is not a big deal, they do it all the time.

Also your baby’s behaviour and capabilities in July aren’t a predictor of what they’ll be like in October - if they’re already “rushing around” now they’ll probably be a completely competent walker in three months time.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 22/07/2024 11:43

Yeah you'll struggle to find carpet in hot countries, regardless, I'd be much more comfortable that my child wasn't crawling on it!

RobinHood19 · 22/07/2024 11:46

Those of us born in hot countries never saw a carpet growing up, and we all lived to tell the tale. If we all survived, your baby will survive too.

Hot countries aren’t full of deceased / injured babies from not having carpets.

Beth216 · 22/07/2024 11:49

People will have walked all sorts into hotel carpets and who knows how often they get anything more than a hoover. I'd much prefer a surface that can be properly cleaned with a baby.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 22/07/2024 11:50

I'd be doing everything possible to keep a crawling baby off a hotel carpet tbh 🤢

At least with a hard floor you can see if it's clean / clean it yourself if you want. God knows what's on a carpet.

DillyDilly · 22/07/2024 11:54

I much, much prefer hotels without carpets. So much cleaner. Do you really want your DD crawling on carpet that you don’t know when was last professionally cleaned, what was walked in or spilt on it ?

momager1 · 22/07/2024 11:56

I live in a hot country and I have never seen a carpeted room anywhere here. The odd area rug in some people's living room, but never a carpeted room.

Brefugee · 22/07/2024 11:59

you're better off with a room without a carpet, and taking a bottle or 6 of Dettol spray to give it a clean several times a day if you're letting a crawling baby on it. And make sure you all take off your outdoor shoes right inside the door.

Hotel carpets are nasty.

BackOfAsda · 22/07/2024 12:00

They did a in depth analysis of various carpets on telly years ago. Common factors were pee poo puke semen and rat/mouse pee and poo. Envy

LittleGreenDuck · 22/07/2024 12:00

Yeah, a hotel carpet will be minging. You don't want a baby crawling around on that. Wooden or tiled floors can be mopped and will be much cleaner. Honestly, I think you're worrying about nothing, but if it's really bothering you, take some blankets or something to lay on the floor.

GoingRoundInOvals · 22/07/2024 12:00

As all previous people have stated

gently OP - this isn't an issue

eurochick · 22/07/2024 12:07

Your baby will change a huge amount by October. Plus what they all said about hotel carpets.

But if that is what you want try Washington DC. It won't be that hot in October but there is loads of sightseeing and all the hotels I have stayed in there have carpeted rooms.

imustbeanidiot · 22/07/2024 12:10

Confused OP, you are, and I do mean this kindly, absolutely batshit

You need to unclench.

And I say that as someone who is an anxious over thinker, but this is just bonkers.

Bjorkdidit · 22/07/2024 12:11

Cruise ships have carpets I think? You could go on a cruise if you want your baby to crawl about on a grubby carpet on holiday.

holidayth · 22/07/2024 12:17

Lol. Okay, I can see this doesn’t seem to be a problem for anyone. 😂

so my next question please is where would you go for the easiest safest holiday with a one year old with a bit of sun and not too brits abroad

Edingril · 22/07/2024 12:24

I figured the bits my child put in their mouth off the floor was no more or less gross on carpet or not

Cala dor is lovely, very family orientated and classy x

ClarrieMia · 22/07/2024 12:51

Decide on travel first.

Short flight - two hours? 4 hours?

October is not going to be as settled in mainland Spain and the islands, as say the Canaries.

Air? How long a flight? Times of flight? Which UK airport and how far is it from you? How far do you mind travelling from the airport to the hotel?

Then look for something within those parameters. It will narrow down your choices and make getting there and back much shorter.

holidayth · 22/07/2024 14:11

Thank you

which hotel do you recommend @justkeepswimmng

@ClarrieMia no more then two hour flight from any London airport and preferably half hour transfer

Eeew, you don't want carpet. At least you can clean hard floors.

1yearplan · 22/07/2024 14:16

Barbados is lovely with little ones.
