To be seriously worried about the food in Lapland due to ASD teen?

I booked a 2 day getaway for me and my teen near Christmas as a little treat and now everywhere I read seems to indicate the food is awful and I’m seriously panicking.

Such a bland diet here - no meat etc

Has anyone been and can tell me if it’s true!

These are some vegan friendly places so may be more likely to offer a variety of foods (meat and dairy as well) rather than more traditional food?
Have a look on the individual websites to get an idea. Am sure waffles and fruit/yoghurt plus potatoes based foods etc are all realistic options for a few days

I found the food to be just basic fodder. DP tried reindeer and he eats everything but wasn’t convinced.

There was an abundance of chicken nuggets and chips which did please DC.

If I went again, I would pack a load of cereal bars to keep us going.

It was a long time ago that I went, but all I remember were huge pans of meat and vegetable stews.

If it’s only 2 days you won’t starve ! Food is basic but edible and there were usually chips on the menu at the hotel. If you are worried about going hungry as an earlier poster said take some cereal bars / ritz crackers / chocolate or whatever your teen likes as a snack. You will be fine and have a great time with the new experience.

Depends which resort you’re going to. Some seem to have chicken nuggets/chips etc, but iirc that’s Santa’s Lapland? We went to a different resort which did the whole meet Santa, husky sled rides etc and it was more traditional food. We didn’t know until the last minute so I took a lot of bagels/peanut butter/oaty bars for back up. All of the dc on our trip really struggled to find anything they liked at mealtimes and we were there for several days 😫 I didn’t particularly like the food either tbh 😂

Never been on a package but we've done 3 trips to Lapland, all in a cabin self catering. Much like any and all places, you might have to do a bit of research in advance about where you eat but by no means is it "awful". And BTW DD is ceoliac so we have to be specific and search menus in advance- Have always found something for her in the restaurants there. Where in Lapland are you going?

Can you take some safe foods in your luggage? Some airlines give additional allowance for medical supplies with ecudence and restricted diet would come under that umbrella.

Take lots of breakfast bars with you, some crisps, biscuits, rolls and other munchy stuff, one because Scandinavia is hideously expensive and you don't want to buy snacks there and two because at least that way he has something to munch on.
I thought reindeer was ok, ds with ASD wasn't too impressed. It definitely wasn't all reindeer with cloudberries though, but everything was pricey. We ate hotdogs several days.

ilovesooty · 21/07/2024 13:17

It's only two days and you can take some stuff with you. He isn't going to starve.

LittleRedYarny · 21/07/2024 13:18

where abouts are you heading Op? If it’s Rovianemi then there is a pizza place in the big supermarket between santas village and town plus a subway if I remember rightly. Plus you can stock up on bits like pot noodles etc there. I genuinely don’t think you will starve.
