Why wasn’t he told sooner feeling very worried

Husband has a skin condition that he takes medication for since he was a teenager. The consultant told him he would most likely grow out of it but he never did. They’ve since told him that he will be on this medication for life.
hes tried to come off it before but it’s always re appeared and he’s in to much pain so has to go back on it. This medication has quite a lot of side effects one being high cholesterol. He’s been put on medication to keep his cholesterol low and has regular blood tests. In may he had a blood test and only today has he received a phone call to say his cholesterol was high at level 10. That’s nearly 3 months like this he’s been told to come of the medicine instantly and not take anymore. I’m shocked that they didn’t tell him sooner he’s been at such a risk all this time of a heart attack and other risks. His diet is pretty healthy and not overly high in cholesterol. This last 5 months before we found out about his blood results we had been researching ways to come off the medication and looking at other treatment options to no avail. I’m very worried now about him having a heart attack or vascular dementia. He dosnt drink plays sport weekly dosnt smoke and we cook from scratch nearly every night. I’ve told him to complain as he shouldn’t have been put at risk for so long.

My understanding is that the effects of high cholesterol are over the long-term, and would be minimal over a few months. So try not to add unnecessary stress to the picture.

Obviously it's not acceptable that you weren't given the results at the time. (You can also check them on the NHS app to keep an eye on things.)

Adding healthy fats such as fatty fish and olive oil helps lower cholesterol and is also beneficial for skin conditions such as psoriasis.

Thanks he eats a lot of fish and has now got the nhs app after I said he could have checked. Hopefully no lasting effects have happened just not sure what the long term answer is clearly the cholesterol tablets aren’t working to keep it low. But if he dosnt take this medication he’s in pain and the skin condition flares up. I’m glad his cholesterol will be lower but j can’t stand to see him in agony.
