To build a false wall in a Housing Association rental property?

We rent from a housing association. Have a 2 bed house. There are 4 of us. DS 8 has a disability which causes him to be unable to share a room. DD 1 is still sharing with us which is fine for now but would like to move her to her own space soon as she wakes us all night wanting to share the bed etc.

We are assessed as being overcrowded and in need of a 3 bedroom but we are Band C so don't stand much of a chance getting a larger property. Have been bidding for over a year.

We've tried to swap but it's next to impossible as most people don't want to downsize for a smaller property that has a high rent.

One of the bedrooms is very large and has 2 windows so could be divided down the middle to make 2 ok sized box rooms.

I know it is not allowed as would need permission to be made into a 3 bed etc but what are people supposed to do when swapping / being given a new property is next to impossible and private renting is out of the question do to the prices being unaffordable.

The wall would be a stud wall and we'd make it so it could be removed if we had to etc.

My kallax plan is getting more detailed.

Large Kallax unit, panel 50% of the unit on one side and 50% of the unit on the other. Both sides then get some storage and some wall space (put a bed or table along). Use acoustic wall panels to reduce noise transfer.

The door is harder (because you can’t create a room in a room - sensible fire reasons). A sliding wardrobe door attached to the ceiling might work, or a sound proof curtain?

Does your son stay in his room when he wakes?

Alternatviely, depending on space, could the partition be made of Pax wardrobes, which would give you the storage you need and you daughter gets the other half of the room? Could you cope with a standard double bed, the saved room could make a difference.

Noisestop Acoustic Wall Panel | 22.5mm Soundproofing Panels

The 22.5mm Noisestop acoustic wall panel is popular for domestic soundproofing as it can easily be applied directly to party and stud walls.

We split a room using floor to ceiling hardboard tacked to the back of wardrobes/drawers, and had a curtain for the 'door'. This gave more of a wall and furniture feel to it with more space rather than using a full run of storage units.

There will be a way of making the door thing work but it will cost you more to create it. Can you do a super-accurate plan in cm rather than feet and repost it? Maybe show the other rooms and landing etc.

If this isn't possible I'd give your son your room and then still create a small room for your daughter and you walk through it to your bedroom.

I'm in part ownership. We put a stud wall and door in the larger room as we had 4 kids to fit in 2 bedrooms. 2 DD shared the smaller room. Eldest DD and DS had the split room. When Eldest moved out we put it back how it was. Didn't ask permission if you don't have inspections I would.

Hey! Im shared ownership also and really need to divide the kids room as i have a 8 year old boy and 3 year old girl and they need their own soaces, what type of wall did you put in? Was it a proper stud wall with a door? Thanks x
