How much is too much?!

Trying to sort out clothes for holiday. Theme parks etc in Florida. What would you say is a reasonable amount of clothes to take? DH says 10 tops, 4 shorts and 4/5 dresses for evening. I have twice that! Not planning to do washing, but will take hand wash stuff so can rinse a top or two in the room. Also have 4 pairs of shoes, 2 swimsuits and 8 pairs of Minnie ears! I guess the less I take, the more I can buy out there, right?!

I take a set of day clothes, a set of evening clothes, around four footwear, beach bag, two handbags, beach towel. I got that easily in a medium IT suitcase for a ten day holiday, it was around 19kg. I don't see why you wouldn't take enough. My DP was chatting going shopping for toiletries and doing mid week washing, I told him I'd find a boat trip while he washed and shopped. Although my DD recently did the US and took too many t shirts because she was buying themed ones (Nashville/Chicago/Indi 500 etc) everywhere she went.

1 pair of shorts, 1 spatula, 5 rakes, 6 pairs of gloves…

CelesteCunningham · 16/07/2024 15:53

I'd be bringing a fresh top for every day, three pairs of bottoms minimum, a few dresses, comfy shoes and sandals.

EatTheGnome · 16/07/2024 15:55

For 16 days of florida sun, you need double that much if you aren't planning on washing stuff. I am absolutely converted to doing laundry on holiday now.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/07/2024 15:56

If the place where you're staying has washers and dryers, I would definitely washing clothes whilst there.

InTheRainOnATrain · 16/07/2024 15:59

It’s hot there. If you don’t want to do much/any washing I would pack an outfit for everyday + 1 in case of a delay. I could rewear shorts a couple of times but definitely not a top in Florida humidity 🤢. Then plus a few dresses for evenings. 2 sets of swimwear so you never have to put it on damp. Comfy plane clothes to wear home. Trainers, flip flops, nicer sandals or something I could wear out. Bigger bag for the parks, smaller one for evenings out. The only thing I think sounds mad are 8 pairs of Minnie Ears. What are those all for?

Homemadearmy · 16/07/2024 16:01

I would take more if your aren't planning on washing out there. 4 days wear is a lot to get out of a pair of shorts. Especially if you go on rides you get wet on

ErrolTheDragon · 16/07/2024 16:02

How much is reasonable to take can depend on whether you're doing a simple journey to one place.

If it's more than you can handle between you then it's too much. Otherwise, if it's within your baggage allowance, fine.

MidnightPatrol · 16/07/2024 16:03

Can you see if you can find a laundrette nearby that can wash all your clothes halfway through the trip?

suburburban · 16/07/2024 16:03

It is casual in Florida.

I've just been somewhere hot and took too much

Wish I'd brought more sleeveless tops for evening

suburburban · 16/07/2024 16:05

Yes dead easy to do washing there

DancingNotDrowning · 16/07/2024 16:07

You need double that at least. Even 8 pairs of shorts for 16 days is ambitious!

I also don’t do washing on hols so I take one day time oufit and one evening outfit per day.

If it’s a beach/pool holiday I can double up on the day time outfits once or twice, providing I’m mostly by the pool, but if you’re out and about you need fresh clothes daily.

I’d also take: 4 bikinis, 4 cover ups.

trainers, flat sandals x2, heel sandals x2, slides and flip flops.

Yes dead easy to do washing there

But who would want to?!

suburburban · 16/07/2024 16:09

Me

I used to love doing washing on holiday

I'm now home from a hotel and stuck with loads and rubbish weather

VestPantsandSocks · 16/07/2024 16:13

Just returned from the USA and despite best efforts, we didnt do much shopping as some really horrible clothes and expensive compared to the U.K. 😕

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 16/07/2024 16:13

Assuming you are going soon, you will sweat so much you will not be able to rewear things especially tops. You will either need to do washing while you’re there or take enough clothes for every day.

GalileoHumpkins · 16/07/2024 16:13

8 pairs of Minnie ears? Wouldn't 1 suffice?

greenpolarbear · 16/07/2024 16:16

2 outfits per day, especially for anything likely to get sweaty. the humidity is awful, most people are taking a break to shower and change in the middle of the day.

I agree cutting down on the ears is a must. you can get cheap ones from Target when you're out there.

Libertysparkle · 16/07/2024 16:16

Just buy another suitcase out there for souvineers.
Keep your minnie ears in hand luggage with your swimwear!

keylimedog · 16/07/2024 16:20

😂

I'd be packing way more than you!! I pack one park outfit, one casual outfit and one cute outfit per day. It's so hot I get changed all the time! At least 2 pairs of underwear per day if not more.

I don't do washing on holiday so need all fresh clothes 😂

4 pairs of shoes is the minimum, walking 30k steps a day for two and a bit weeks would hurt so much if you don't change shoes regularly!

Florida is casual in some areas but I love dressing up for an evening meal out, it's part of the holiday fun.
