To ask if you’d get checked?

I’m 22+4 and, on one of my many bathroom trips in the night, walked straight into the bedroom door handle with full force. I now have a red line just underneath my belly button which I’m guessing will bruise. It did hurt at the time and is slightly sore to the touch now.

I rang maternity triage this morning as I was very worried. The midwife on the phone was lovely, very reassuring and did not seem at all concerned. She said it’s normal for your spatial awareness to change in pregnancy and that if I had done any damage I’d know about it by now, and there would be cramping or bleeding (I have neither). She did say that if I couldn’t stop worrying I could go in to be checked.

I have an anterior placenta and haven’t felt baby move consistently yet, maybe a few flutters but it’s not every day. I am worried that firstly I’ve done some damage to baby, and secondly worried that I could have impacted the placenta due to it being at the front.

Would you get checked anyway or just try and forget about it?

Name change as I’ve posted the same thing on my due date group, so don’t necessarily want my other posts linking! 😄

I’d go and get checked if it was me, but I am just a bit of a worrier and even though I know baby’s are so well protected in there I’d rather the peace of mind!

I honestly think you/baby will be just fine, baby is so well protected in there but I don’t think you are going to stop worrying as you can’t monitor baby yourself with movements due to placenta so I would go get checked for your piece of mind.

You’re not wasting time and you’re not being silly for worrying. It’s an awful feeling when you fall or bump yourself while pregnant and you just want that reassurance. Baby will be absolutely fine but if you need to, go to put your mind at rest.

I wouldn't, but if you're worried enough to post twice, you're probably going to have to, to put your mind at rest.

I would probably also feel to go and get things checked - especially if it’s harder to monitor movements due to placenta position. Don’t worry about wasting their time and go for it if it’s still worrying you.

Hospital won’t check anyway, I rang back. She said since I’m 22+4 they don’t monitor until 26 weeks. The different midwife reiterated that if there was going to be an issue I would have had pain or bleeding, so she thinks it’s absolutely fine. Not so reassured. Just hope it will be ok

I hit my bump off door handles all the time in pregnancy, often leaving scratches and marks behind. It gets worse as you get bigger! I was never monitored afterwards but am now sitting with my perfectly healthy 18 day old baby sleeping on my chest. You and your baby will be fine, if the hospital had any concerns they would check without hesitation. I have an anxious disposition and kept reminding myself that it's actual trauma that will cause harm e.g. car crashes, rather than me clumsily walking into a door.
