Confused by GP ordering blood test for foot pain?

I've been experiencing excruciating pain in the soles of my feet since pregnancy. Changed shoes, tried insoles, foot spa, radox salts, moisturiser, massage gun, nothing helps.

Made an appointment with my GP (waited a month for this). Our GP is not very communicative at best of times, but today wouldn't tell me anything and ordered a blood test?!?

I'm totally confused now... any ideas as to why I would need a blood test for foot pain?

A blood test is a good place to start, there are several markers that can give an indication of what might be wrong. I don’t think the doctor can/should tell you anything before looking at bloods because it would just be a wild guess. There are different things that can cause the problem. The GP will be able to tell you what might be wrong after looking at the blood test result.

I’m not sure what else you wanted from the doctor in this scenario? basically he doesn’t know why your feet hurt and it beginning the process to find out why. It sounds like his bed side manner is a little abrupt but he probably doesn’t want to reel off 3/4 which may or may not be the issue and cause you undue stress about them. Or worse you go off and google the possibilities and start trying random home treatments which could make the issue worse. If there wasn’t a glaring obvious reason for the pain, then it’s right to investigate it.

I asked what happens next and what they expected to find. I was just told to go to the receptionist and book a bloods appointment. The doctor then left the consultation room.

very informative doc.-world class
If we all adopted this style of responses, we’d be out of our jobs the same week.
