To want sofas and rugs not covered in pet hair....

What sofas do you all have? I am so fed up of constantly having to vacuum the sofas and rugs, which are covered in cat hair.

I didn't even want the pets, and guess what? It's me who is left to clean up after them. We have 2 cats. I have a Shark Pet Vacumn and a carpet scraper. I use blankets on the sofas. One day, if I don't vacuum, the sofas will be covered.

I work full-time; I have 5 kids in the house DH woks full time.

I am fed up. AIBU to re-home them?

Yes, my view as well. Pets make so much work - usually for women who are not always the ones who wanted them in the first place.

She got them for her children though so this is her own mistake and ultimately hers and her DHs responsibility. Teaching your kids that they can get living things and then ditch them because they’ve lost interesting in caring for them is shit parenting.

Leather sofa

My sofas were a nightmare until I hit this from Amazon. Best purchase of all time. Takes seconds, gets all the fur. And I have four cats, mostly black and cream sofas!!!

ACE2ACE Pet Hair Remover Roller,... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0819XVK92?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

I feel your pain, I have to live with my husband's Maine coon who refuses to be brushed and sheds everywhere. I run a handheld vac over the sofa daily and it's not too bad but the hair gets everywhere as it's so flyaway - on your cutlery, your towels, everything. I've just learned to live with it as it's not the end of the world and doesn't take too much time to keep on top of

I came on to post the exact same item. Amazing little gadget. I have two very hairy Ragdoll cats, and two very hairy dogs, plus velvet sofas 😬

These rollers are the only thing that save my sanity.

We have our old leather sofas. We bought them in 2013 and they’re easy to clean. Our floors are solid wood with a few rugs dotted everywhere.
The other sofa is fabric, we use a rubber brush that gathers up the fur. Ddog is a Husky mix (well, that’s what we’ve been told) and he sheds a lot. We’re getting covers for the fabric sofa. DDs don’t mind brushing the sofa for fur, it’s part of their chores. Once the fur is gathered Henry does the rest.

I have one leather sofa and one dark blue velvet sofa, I have 2 dogs and 1 cat.

I have just ordered 2 new leather sofas so that I can finally get rid of the velvet sofa that needs vacuuming a million times a week!

Leather sofas is possibly the answer but my cats scratch those! I'm not sure there is anything that cures it though - my other sofa and cushions get covered and I have to hoover every day.

If you have kids and animals it is likely that the kids are attached to them, and that alone would make it unreasonably to get rid of them.

But more importantly, it is a terrible example to teach children that if a totally foreseeable problem arises (you know cats, and most furry animals, shed) that you solve such problems by abdicating responsibility. Instead, get the kids to help with the clean ups. That’s the example you want to set.

Alternatively, rehome the kids and the DH and enjoy all your free time relaxing by petting and grooming the cats (they’ll shed less). That will also model an appropriate example to your children

We used to have Persians. We combed them once a day and bathed regularly. Seemed to cut down on hair.

I wouldn't even consider bathing my cats. They HATE being brushed.

How did you manage bathing them??

Just get a hand held vac and keep it next to the sofas. Your DD vacs the hair when she comes home from school.
