Hello,

I'm intrigued to know what your sitting v standing heart rate is as I feel mine is on the higher side of 'normal?' My average sitting heart rate is around 103 BPM not sure about my standing average.

What's yours?

For reference I'm 27 (F)

Thanks.

Just did mine sitting and its 74. I’m 38. Is yours always that high? Are you unwell at all or drink a lot? Do you exercise?

HÆLTHEPAIN · 13/07/2024 22:49

My sitting is usually between 78 & 84. Standing can jump up to say 120 but I have ME/CFS so it’s a ‘thing’ for it to jump.

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/07/2024 22:49

My sitting is usually between 63-68.

user666555 · 13/07/2024 22:50

@Didimum thank you for sharing.

No, I don't drink at all - never have. I don't smoke either.

In regards to exercise I do go on walks but I don't go to the gym or go swimming or anything of that sort.

My dad has four stents in and has had two heart attacks so I'm not sure if I should be worried or if some people just have a higher heart rate and it's somewhat 'normal' for them?

Sitting anywhere between 90-100, Standing from 90-130. I have worked Parkinson white syndrome though.

Trenda · 13/07/2024 22:52

My sitting heartbeat is currently 66bpm
Standing is around 75 . I am mid - 60s and unfit.

user666555 · 13/07/2024 22:53

I ALWAYS feel tired. I always feel like I've been running a marathon all day. I never feel rested. I feel like a 70 year old in a 27 year olds body. I'm not sure if my heart rate has anything to do with it but I'm tired of feeling tired!

Iron levels are fine. Vitamin D is also fine now too. Has previously been low. Same with iron.

Sitting reading this it’s about 60. And I’m 66. I would definitely say yours is on the higher side of average - classically normal range is 60-100.

sugarbyebye · 13/07/2024 22:54

Mine is 45 sitting, about 60 standing, and drops to about 35 when asleep - but I have hypothyroid disease. My resting heart rate was over 100 when I had hyperthyroidism in my twenties. Have you had your thyroid checked?

I should say, I'm 44, fairly active, pretty healthy, but certainly no athlete.

Do you drink enough water? Dehydration can cause high heart rate. Considering the way you feel coupled with the high heart rate, I would check in with your GP.

Google POTS

Amberpants · 13/07/2024 23:01

I’m overweight. Sitting heart rate about 70.

Bumply · 13/07/2024 23:02

Currently 58 sitting and around 70 standing.
My HR is always fairly low even when I'm unfit, but at the moment I'm getting fitter with running 3-4 times a week.

HR is 115-120 when walking.
145-160 when running (easy-hard)
Dips to just under 50 at night.

I'm 61

I do have a friend who has a high resting rate (100s) despite running, so it can differ in what's normal.

If you're always feeling tired it sounds like yours isn't what it should/could be and you might be worth getting it checked out.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 13/07/2024 23:10

I'm an unfit 44 year old and my resting heart rate hovers around 59-63bpm. Standing up and walking about it's around 80-90. When I'm active it's usually upwards of 115-125 bpm.

outdamnedspots · 13/07/2024 23:24

Sitting - 63 (I'm 50).
Standing - 70, then quickly back to 66.

This doesn't sound right at all. I'd bill an appt with your GP to discuss.

TheRainItRaineth · 13/07/2024 23:27

I don't know about sitting and standing but my resting heart rate is about 60 and it goes up to about 80 if I'm walking about or going up and down stairs. 103 sounds very high for someone your age. I'm in my mid fifties.

DatingDinosaur · 13/07/2024 23:28

Mine's 52 sitting and 65 then drops to high 50s standing.

I'm early 50s and pretty active but no olympic athlete so I think this is pretty low.

Interesting to read the poster above with equally low stats mentioning thyroid issues as I suspect I have something thyroid-y going on.

MeouwCat · 13/07/2024 23:30

50 bpm and I am in my late 60s. Very active; exercise at moderate intensity, 1 hr a day. Don't think it is linked to age at all.

jonnyjanetkeogh · 13/07/2024 23:32

Mine is 64 sitting and 68 standing.

RenoDakota · 13/07/2024 23:39

Is 'sitting' heart rate the same as resting? My resting heart rate hovers around 55-58 but was 68 when I was unwell recently.

user666555 · 13/07/2024 23:53

Interesting responses.

I recently had a baby (7M PP) and it was during my pregnancy I'd feel AWFUL. I'd feel like i was having such bad palpitations and that I was going to pass out. I had an ECG and they didn't find anything but they could also see that my heart rate was higher than 'normal'. I think pregnancy made the feeling worse and I ended up being put on Bisoprolol (think that's how it's spelt). Anyways, I then thought that having my baby would mean that my heart rate returns to a 'normal' rate but it hasn't. I'm wondering if this has been the norm for me but prior to pregnancy I just thought I was being lazy and now that I've had the baby and was on Bisoprolol during pregnancy I feel as though I've run a marathon everyday!

Not sure if it makes any sense but what I'm trying to say is that I think I've had this issue for a while. It felt worse during pregnancy and has when I noticed my heart rate is on the higher side. I thought it's a pregnancy related thing and now that I'm 7M PP I can't work out why I'm still on the higher end.

Not to be alarmist but 103bpm at rest is a bit above normal.

As someone else has mentioned, I would suggest doing some research on POTS (Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) and also IST (Inappropriate sinus tachycardia). Both could account for the fatigue. There are other causes of tachycardia but these are a good starting point.

Given your family history I don't think it's unreasonable for you to request a cardiologist referral from your GP, or at minimum an ecg and holter monitor if this is something they can request themselves (be aware POTS cannot be diagnosed by holter). But I would do some research first, monitor your heartrate for a bit if possible, and approach your doctor informed and with Nice guidelines in hand as many doctors are not familiar with these disorders and you may have to self advocate.

POTS is often triggered or exacerbated by pregnancy.

user666555 · 14/07/2024 00:06

@Crankyracoon thank you for the response. When I was pregnant I was referred to the Cardiology and the Cardiologist made me wear that monitor (not the ECG) where you take it home etc. but I don't think he found anything alarming. He said my heart was just faster but there wasn't anything on the ECG or that wearable monitor thing that was showing what it was caused by?

Does that mean it's just normal for me and that I should accept it?

I feel like as mentioned, pregnancy did make it worse but I'm also finding it harder because I've got a baby and obviously that takes its toll too! Where previously I felt tired and not rested I'd be able to get on with it but now I just feel like I'm exhausted, out of breath and that I've been worked to my limit. It's really annoying. I feel as though I'm too young to feel this way and I've not even got a mobile child. What'll happen when I have to start running around after her? 🙈🙁
