Cellulitis on my boob?

tiredandmoody · 12/07/2024 18:15

I posted last night but now that I’ve seen the GP I’m posting a new thread (sorry) because there are developments that weren’t mentioned!

I have two breast abscesses and one became very large and burst yesterday, I woke up this morning and my whole boob has turned red. I went to the GP today who said that it’s got the abscess has burst, however the redness is cellulitis and she’s prescribed antibiotics. She’s also swabbed for MRSA as I had this in 2020.

She said if I start feeling worse in myself like fevers and the redness growing I needed to go straight to A&E.

I wasn’t able to get the antibiotics because the pharmacy did not have them and said to collect on the morning.

I’ve circled the redness with a pen just to keep an eye on it.

It’s been a couple of hours and I’ve now noticed redness higher up on the breast, with red specks that looks like tiny blood spots under the skin. She didn’t say anything about specks so I’m just unsure if this is part of the parcel or something to be concerned about - my GP surgery is now closed so I can’t call them and I don’t want to waste anyone’s time if it’s just something that’s normal.

The area is very tender and sore and even the pen hurt when circling.

As I haven’t got the antibiotics I’d feel a bit stupid going to A&E and my temp is 37, apart from a headache I do feel alright if a little bit under the weather, but I’m not dying.

So I’m just wondering if anyone knows if this is a normal thing or something worsening/to be concerned about and would be an issue to wait until tomorrow for antibiotics.

Sorry, I know this sounds like super health anxiety but I’ve never experienced this before and don’t want to go to Dr Google for horror stories!

Just to add, I am also diabetic and known for slow wound healing.

You need to go to different pharmacy that has the antibiotics in. Call around and then ask them to transfer the prescription

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 12/07/2024 18:22

Go straight to a&e as the redness is growing as per your gp’s advice. Really hope you feel better soon OP.

Krumblina · 12/07/2024 18:22

Call 111 for advice but antibiotics needed to be started immediately. The pharmacist shouldn't have sent you away

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 12/07/2024 18:23

You may need IV antibiotics now.

tiredandmoody · 12/07/2024 18:23

@Krumblina Unfortunately I can’t as the prescription was sent directly to the pharmacy &
the pharmacy is now closed

Oh then definitely call 111 or a&e depending on how the fever and spreading of the redness.

Mummyratbag · 12/07/2024 18:25

If the pharmacy hasn't yet pulled the prescription down to their system it is possible for other pharnacies (with your permission) to access it from "the spine". Worth asking. You need them ASAP before you end up on IV antibiotics.

Mummyratbag · 12/07/2024 18:27

Sorry ignore that, it sounds as though they have already looked at it.

olympicsrock · 12/07/2024 18:27

I’m a doctor. If you no longer have the prescription , you need to get antibiotics from elsewhere.
either contact your out of hours GP to get another prescription that must be fulfilled this evening
or
attend A and E.

You MUST start antibiotics this evening .

If OOH can’t see you before 8:30 just go to A and E.

tiredandmoody · 12/07/2024 18:34

I’m just on the phone to 111 now, my headache is worsening

If 111 are slow getting the antibiotics and you start feeling worse go directly to a&e.

tiredandmoody · 12/07/2024 18:47

They’ve told me to go to A&E, I suddenly feel quite bad but I’m worried I’m just overthinking it. But I’m going to go and I’ll see what they say

I hope you are on your way and you get some antibiotics tonight.

Gingerbreadmoon · 12/07/2024 19:27

Good luck, hope you get treated very quickly and feel better soon!!

Sapphire387 · 12/07/2024 19:38

That sounds very nasty OP, I really hope you feel better soon. You're doing the right thing going to A&E.

HettyMeg · 12/07/2024 20:07

Not to scare you but you need antibiotics tonight I'm afraid. Breast infections can worsen very quickly. I once had mastitis that went from 0 to 100 overnight and I ended up on IV antibiotics and in hospital for days, followed by a breast abscess. I'd probably just go straight to a&e if I were you. You need antibiotics and possibly a referral to the breast clinic.

tiredandmoody · 12/07/2024 22:59

Thank you so much everyone for encouraging me to go, I’m here on IV antibiotics, fluids & IV paracetamol

Im glad I came because my heart rate is 127, my blood pressure is high and I have a temp

im waiting to see a breast surgeon but I don’t know why, anyone know what they would do?

I'm pleased you went, hopefully getting some rest

OrangeBlossom28 · 13/07/2024 05:03

My friend had very similar to you and ended up being seen weekly by the surgeon to have the abscess drained. Hope you're starting to feel a bit better.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/07/2024 11:39

Glad you're being looked after. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 13/07/2024 12:01

What a relief to read an alarming thread on immediate health issue, see sensible advice being given and that it's been followed! Makes a nice change from the usual worrying pages and pages of "don't waste NHS resources wait until the morning" type responses.

Best wishes OP hope you're on the mend quickly.

Growsomeballswoman · 14/07/2024 19:27

How are you OP?

HettyMeg · 14/07/2024 20:17

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. It may be that breast surgeon wants to assess how to deal with the abscess. For me I had to go and have it drained as it had burst and I needed regular checkups for a few weeks. You're in the right place
