To ask them to update their addresses?

Englishrose223 · 12/07/2024 16:50

I moved into a house 4 months ago and the seller gave me an onwarding address for post. I expected to just send a couple of things and then they'd update their addresses but I'm still getting loads of post for them which they expect me to forward. Would I be unreasonable to send a polite message saying please can you update your postal address?

pf course not

do it… now

UrbanFan · 12/07/2024 16:51

How much is loads? Every day? Once a week?

Englishrose223 · 12/07/2024 16:52

Couple times a week for both of them

When I moved I updated my address on everything and paid for a 6 month redirection

Star writing return to sender, not at this address on them and pop back in a postbox.

DezTheMoaner · 12/07/2024 16:53

I'd send them a message saying "as of 1st August all post that arrives here will be returned to sender marked "not known at this address" ": that should concentrate their minds.

PBandJ111 · 12/07/2024 17:00

Yabu to keep forwarding post.

return to sender every time

sentfrmmyiphone · 12/07/2024 17:02

at this point any mail i was getting from the previous owners i would be putting back into the mail box with 'no longer at this address' written all over it.

if they are loo lazy to redirect their mail or update their contacts with their new address, then thats on them.

Well if it is too much trouble just put it back in the post box marked 'return to sender'. Although that is probably the same amount of strenuous effort.

My thought exactly! Same amount of effort, and for what? Just to be mean? From experience, there's always some senders you won't have caught for an update because they're just not frequent enough. And redirect is a double-edged sword and often unreliable.

obsessedwithfreshbread · 12/07/2024 19:11

I know people are saying it's mean etc. but what if it's a debt? I had this with a house I rented, was being nice and just forwarding it on and then had bailiffs at the door as they were just ignoring the forwarded Mail I was mortified.

All post for previous occupants is immediately marked as 'no longer at this address' if they can't be bothered to sort out a redirect I can't be bothered to help!

malmi · 12/07/2024 19:18

Returning to sender is the same amount of effort but will actually result in the volume reducing over time and motivate them to update their address with the senders so it's a win win solution.

Returning to sender doesn’t need postage paying on it, no way I’d still be forwarding on mail after this amount of time it’s ridiculous.

TheCultureHusks · 12/07/2024 19:29

I’d just stop forwarding.

bung it all in a big pile.

If they get in touch to ask where X is - ‘oh gosh I’m afraid I haven’t had time lately, assumed anything that came here now can’t be that important as you’ll have updated everything. Sorry but surely anything coming here now is junk mail?’ 😊

Ginkypig · 12/07/2024 19:39

I don’t think either options are wrong.

send a message telling them you will forward mail until (pick a date) then tell them after that date you will be returning to sender/unknown at this address.

once the date passes give it a couple of more months (just to ensure most places will have been informed and had time to rectify it) of returning to sender if you are still receiving regular mail after that just start chuckling it in the recycling/bin, by that point you will have given them plenty of chances and you can’t be expected to keep up this forever

Which is what you should have told them to do.

MumonabikeE5 · 12/07/2024 20:17

Tell them to pay for mail forwarding for a year

Neither dies forwarding it! You just write the correct address on and put it in the post box.

Of course tampering the mail is an offence. I don't know if that includes binning it.

This.

RaininSummer · 14/07/2024 13:31

Into postbox as above or in a bag in a deep dark cupboard until they collect it.
