Taxi parking in private visitors space.

Hello,

I need your help with something as don’t know if I’m turning into a Karen.

We have 4 visitors spaces between 7 houses and pay a monthly fee to use the carpark.
some days carpark full other days it’s empty.

We have a neighbour up the road who has their own carpark and street parking but their guest who drives a taxi always uses our carpark. recently because they parked 3 of their visitors cars in our spaces our guests couldn’t park.

I don’t want drama with neighbours but politely mentioned to them before as we were struggling to park. The lady was rude and told me it wasn’t and she will get her deeds and prove it (didn’t come back) On Friday when the taxi was in carpark again I called the firm to explain the spaces are private and we pay to use them and taxi moved straight away.

Today it is back and when I called to report this time the guy didn’t speak English.

I have the license plate information and was tempted to report To the council but AIBU?

I can’t be bothered to speak to neighbour again as I don’t want to fall out over parking but at the same time think it’s incredibly rude to knowingly use private spaces.

YABU for being a misogynist.

Longdueachange · 12/07/2024 07:37

Karen is sloppy shorthand now for woman with a voice, so get your hard hat ready.
No, it would piss me off too. If someone is parking their car in a private car park then it's trespass. I would contact the company you pay and see if they will write a cease and desist to the neighbour.

AllstopAllrr · 12/07/2024 07:39

How long are they parking for? While visiting or overnight etc?

DoreenonTill8 · 12/07/2024 07:41

So you think their guests shouldn't get to park in the visitors spot, but yours can? Would your guests move if someone else wanted the spot?
N.B you argument was defunct with the derogatory, misogynistic use of 'Karen'.

Oh FFS get a grip, she was describing herself as one. You could have just explained kindly like @Longdueachange .

OP, YANBU to complain, this is unacceptable.

Describing herself as someone with a misogynistic viewpoint? Yes she did that quite well.

Wakemeup17 · 12/07/2024 07:50

Does the problematic neighbour also pay for the car park in question or not? If they don't pay for that car park they shouldn't be using it and I would report to the company operating the car park.

Have another go at reading the OP, your rush to be offended must have distracted you.

The neighbour whose guests are using the OP's visitor spaces does not live in one of the 7 houses that share the visitor spaces, and has their own parking to use.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/07/2024 07:54

Was the Karen slur really necessary?

Exactly. Rushing to be all offended over a word OP misguidedly used to describe herself.

Sorry for the delay in replying I didn't think there were any responses.
Thank you for confirming you would find this frustrating, will just watch and see if it continues to happen as hate conflict over something like parking.
sometimes they leave the car for a few hours once they took 2 spaces for 2 days it always varies. I would be more understanding if they couldn’t park elsewhere but they can.
we pay £20 per month to use carpark.

Apologies for the Karen comment I had no clue people would take offence.

Could you get the managers of your car park to get an external company to run a clamping operation? One of these sprung up near us overnight in a popular car park and it has caused HUGE upset as all the culprits has been caught out. You know exactly who they are as they ask on the local facebook page how to get around the fine with, of course, limited sympathy! You’ll need to get a legit company to run it, correct signs etc, You might need to submit your visitor's reg no and keep one bay for loading (online shopping deliveries etc) with a 15 mins or whatever time limit, but a year contract of that type might sort the problem?

Gillypie23 · 13/07/2024 07:51

The council won't do anything as it's private land.

IncompleteSenten · 13/07/2024 08:16

Can you put a chain across that all people who pay for the car park have a key to? Or collapsible bollards.
Yes it would be a minor inconvenience but it would ensure nobody could ever park there who doesn't have the right to.

CedarFence · 13/07/2024 08:46

Unless it is a council run scheme and housing, the council won’t be interested. It’s a civil matter , not on their land.

Is there a management company for your 7 houses? Who are you phoning to complain to? The company you pay your £20 to?

They are the ones who should be responding and managing the situation.

But to enforce it they would need to instigate a guest pass system for you to use, a legal warning about parking charges for unauthorised parking and occasionally send someone to check and issue charge notices.

7 people paying £20 a month probably doesn’t cover that.

But they could put up a sign?

Igmum · 13/07/2024 09:03

I'd find that frustrating as well OP. (I'd also dither and worry like crazy about reporting them.) I'm assuming that council involvement is because they licence taxis as opposed to them controlling the car park. In which case yes, I would report. You've spoken to them. You've spoken to the taxi company. You've given them warnings. They know damn well they're not supposed to park there. Report them.

Exactly because it's Karen's who don't like it.
Op nothing wrong with using Karen and I don't think you are one.

Karen- start trouble then play victim, annoying woman who doesn't know how to mind her business

H12345 · 13/07/2024 17:45

Thank you for all your helpful and supportive comments it’s been really reassuring.
So each house pays at least £20 for the carpark on top of their rent / mortgage so the HA make a good amount each month.
I’ve not considered contacting the HA about this mainly because they are absolutely useless at everything else but think I will try it next week.
Failing that I may try and mention it once more to neighbour and if nothing changes may consider reporting the taxi driver to the council but that would be last resort if we keep not being able to park.

Just trying to not let someone else’s behaviour frustrate me, would never dream of parking in someone else carpark but each to their own.

Definitely learnt to be careful using Karen on MN!
