Hi everyone

I am desperately seeking a 3 bed within easy commute to West Brompton/ Fulham, ideally would love a house with garden but I am getting nowhere

Any recommendations on nice and safe areas I could look into that would meet that criteria?

You can get a terrace just about where I am, closest station upper warlingham, 30 mins to Victoria (stops at Clapham). A lot nicer than Croydon

@unmp

Do you need to take any other factors into account, OP, such as getting to work yourself, contact with family/friends, social/educational things of your own?

I'm wondering whether it would perhaps be useful for you as an individual to be closer to the boys' school, regardless of the size of the property, so that you have more contact with other parents at the school.

Is this a joke?

3 bed terrace Thornton Heath goes straight to West Brompton and then can walk. Or bus from CJ.

I'm in the North but just reading the thread because I'm nosy and I love house hunting / browsing! But WOW. I know salaries are higher (allegedly) in and around London and obviously more opportunity, more going on, it's the capital city at the end of the day. But I genuinely cannot believe the cost of these properties that people are posting 😳

Is changing at Ealing Broadway a possibility? Then you could look further out on the Elizabeth line.

Southfields? Wimbledon? South Wimbledon? You probably won’t get a house but a flat is possible.

Yeah, your kids school is near Fulham Broadway (quite a trek from West Brompton). You’d be best with somewhere you can change from the overground at Wimbledon. So New Malden, Surbiton or Tolworth might be possible.

yep! its horrendous. my child rents a flat in central London. ex Local authority, very small 2 bedrooms £2,500 a month just for rent. I wish people outside of London all knew how ridiculous the situation is now. and as for buying your own home, forget it. Nearby flat same size £500K thats half a million pounds! My first flat in London in the 1980's one bedroom £36K so exactly 3 times my salary.

unmp · 11/07/2024 13:26

The prices in London are horrific for what you get for your money, and with current interest rates as they are Confused

We brought our flat 5yrs ago with 5% deposit and a rate of 1. Something percent!

The only up side to purchasing in London is that the property has gone up significantly in 5yrs hence how we are able to go for a property of 400k with a deposit of 60k plus of equity in that period of time

Hey I’ve just seen your post! Just wondering how you got on with house search? I found your post after searching for Fulham boys school. We went to the open evening today. Would like to know your thoughts on the school?

Thelandlordsdaughter1 · 25/09/2025 22:15

Lol do you live under a stone?! Or have you never been to London? You will struggle to find a 1 bedroom ex council flat in that area for that price!

Mountaintopp · 25/09/2025 22:27

Walking distance or quick bus to east Croydon station (quick journey to Clapham junction). https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/163112912
