My dd is 19.5 year old daughter has been suffering from depression and anxiety for 3 years at least. It has disrupted her sleep , concentration and social life greatly during this time, and also brain fog affects her academics.
We have paid thousands of pounds for talking therapy and psychotherapy.
She has also tried beta blockers. Which didn't make her feel better a d gave her side effects .
The GP wants to try more cbt. What is the reason they have not prescribed an SSRI, she has no health problems.

Look up the side effects, watch the panorama documentary.

They saved my life, but I wouldn’t take them for milder forms of depression.

Sounds obvious but has she asked to try them outright? Has she asked why they havent prescribed them so far? There must be a reason. Can you get a second opinion from another GP?

SSRI use under the age of 25 is associated with increased side effects particularly of increased suicidal risk when first started, not many studies on long term use either .Under 18 should only be prescribed by a psychiatrist. The cut off of 18 is arbitrary and linked to children’s services.
That’s not to say they’re not useful and life saving drugs for many but do have higher warnings for this age group.
The NICE guidance is for individualised CBT in this age group but is a nightmare getting it .
This might explain why GP is reluctant but can understand the fact the your daughter is not improving.
do you have a specialist mental health nurse attached to your practice ? Is worth asking , is an increase in this role over the last year .
if you’ve paid for pyschotherapy would you consider a private psychiatrist appointment. Realise you shouldn’t have to but current mental health services are on knees.
