Any fans?

I used to read them all the time .... they were a huge trend in P6/P7, I'm not sure I would like my 9 to 11 year old reading them. Though tbf I've never read back over them again.

Just discovered there are 135 books on kindle unlimited, though it seems to start at book 13. KIDNAPPED!!!!! I seem to remember Elizabeth gets kidnapped and its something to do with Bruce?????t was always Bruce wasn't it?

Maybe Jessica was jealous?

I really thought it was unfair that they were called Elizabeth and Jessica, as Jessica was such a beautiful name (and obviously all my future daughters would be named variations of it) and Elizabeth was sooooo boring like my Granny and the Queen lol

I loved these books! I'm a bit scared to re-read though in case it tarnishes my memories

Given that in P7 I was reading Flowers in the Attic, Sweet Valley High seems wholesome! But I'll definitely investigate these.

I read this very young too, and then reread it as an adult and had a very different experience. I dont think I quite realised what Cathy and Chris were up to. I was very sheltered 😝

Then my Granny gave me some Mills and Boon that she'd sent off for, for me, by collecting tokens on I believe chocolate digestives and my mind was opened a bit more.

By Jilly Cooper in early teens I was setting myself up for a lifetime of disappointment really😂....though can't wait for that tv show!!!

I loved Sweet Valley High! My sis and I were always fascinated by their matching gold lavaliere necklaces - we had no idea what it meant!
The return to Sweet Valley book set when they're around 30 is worth a read. Awful and brilliant, disappointing and satisfying all at the same time Smile

That was thing pre Google I spent hours being confused about Americanisms, I couldn't get my head around a peanut butter and jelly sandwich 🤣

CassTheFox · 08/07/2024 21:42

Are Point Horrors available yet? 😁

BrickZebra · 08/07/2024 21:45

I was addicted to sweet valley kids, twins and high. Also loved sweet dreams and babysitters club.

Anyone read the saddle club?

I absolutely loved the Saddle Club with Stevie and Lisa etc. I was pony mad and I used to adore those books.

x2boys · 08/07/2024 21:47

Does anyone remember the cheerleader series of books?

PaulAnkaTheDoggo · 08/07/2024 21:49

Don’t ever read the newest versions when they are adults. Shocking, a spoils the whole teenage years!

Cheerleaders with a character called Mary Ellen?

Yes ,and another called Patrick who she kind of dated but was horrified by the fact his dad was a garbage collector ( he might have had his own business) and I think he called her Melon?

Read a blog that summed it up and that was enough for me...the partner choices were intresting.

Did enjoy the Evil twin saga! Very dramatic with someone wanting to kill Elizabeth and take over her life and further books down the line they brought her back and she discovered she had a twin and then they both wanted to kill Jessica and Elizabeth and then become them..and fought over who was going to be who or something

Awrite · 08/07/2024 22:00

To date, the one with Regina is the only book I have ever cried reading.

Loved them.

What sticks in my head is that Mary Ellen was poor and saved and saved to buy a glitzy sweater for a party and some mean girl character threw a drink over it.

Cornflakelover · 08/07/2024 22:06

OMG
I loved these books as a teen I have kindle unlimited as I’m a massive bookworm so I’m going to download them
I wonder how they have aged
The one I always remember was the girl who was horrible but then it was revealed she had MS

Judy Bloody Blume was another of my teenage favourite books 😂

Jilly Cooper was a staple in my teens and while all holiday last week I read Riders Rival and Polo absolute bliss 😂 best holiday I’ve had in years

I can't remember, but I do remember that rather then keep them at 16 forever like sweet Valley high ,they moved on and had a second set of cheerleaders ,there was another charchter ,who had ,had poor health as a child and was tiny weighed 60 pounds the things that stick in your mind🤣

Anyone read the saddle club?

I had almost every single saddle club book, there were loads Grin

AppleKatie · 08/07/2024 22:11

I loved these books but I loved the saddle club even more.

god knows why- I wasn’t a rider and had never met a pony in real life 😂

TheaDecker · 08/07/2024 22:22

The mean girl was Vanessa Barlow who didn’t get picked for the squad.
The girl ill as a child was Olivia.
I still have some of the books!

Rainbowsponge · 08/07/2024 22:23

I seem to remember one about a werewolf attacking girls at parties starting with a girl named Katrina? Or is that a false memory? And wasn’t Jessica raped too?

Aquamarine1029 · 08/07/2024 22:34

I LOVED the SVH books! Talk about Memory Lane!

DurtBurd · 08/07/2024 22:38

There's an excellently snarky podcast called Double Love that has the hosts rereading the SVH catalogue.

I liked the family dynasty ones.

Yesssssssssss.

elisabeth and jessamyn whose mother Alice emigrated from Sweden and met one of the Wakefield men on the boat. Jessamyn was killed in a horse riding circus accident?
samantha and Amanda were during the prohibition era? One of them died tragically too.

how do I remember this!?
