Next day interview

Kellyanne555 · 08/07/2024 17:31

I applied for a job on Sunday two weeks ago. It was a job that I really wanted and I spent a lot of time filling out the application form for it.

I got an email at 5pm on Monday inviting me for an online interview the next day, Tuesday at 2.30.

I've never been asked to an interview the very next day before.

I'm working full time at the moment. I have to give a week's notice to get annual leave. I have no paid sick leave, i would lose quite a lot of money if i take a sick day, and it is also quite a difficult process to call in sick at my work.

Surely they could have given me more notice for the interview. If they had given me a weeks notice, I would have been able to do it.

I emailed back and said i would be unable to attend interview the next day, but I asked if I could reschedule and I suggested a lot of other dates and times that I would be free.

They didn't reply to me at all.

I sent then one more email late last week saying "is it possible to reschedule this interview as I would like to do it".

No reply.

I just feel really upset. I really wanted to do the interview. Why give me one days notice. And why not reschedule.

I looked back at the original interview email they sent me.

It even says the words in it "if you not able to attend and would like to reschedule let us know".

I would see this as a lucky escape. If this is the way this place operates, it doesn't bode well.

I agree with the above poster. If they can't be bothered to reply this is telling you something. Imagine working there and trying to address any issues probably would be a nightmare.

You may be gutted now but this is not normal and when you finally get your dream job and are over the disappointment you will see this had alarm bells all over it.

NewName24 · 08/07/2024 22:34

I agree with all the above posters.

This is probably a lucky escape.

Massively lucky escape. Amateur hour.

MisfitMagpie · 08/07/2024 22:59

Agree with the other responders. Whilst it is disappointing as you are interested, it is poor (in my opinion) to give no notice for interviews and shows how the company operates.

LampGhost · 08/07/2024 23:03

Agree with the above - you’re bound to be disappointed but a recruitment process runs both ways, and they haven’t exactly sold themselves - real amateurs by the sound of it.

Kellyanne555 · 08/07/2024 23:34

I know. Its just a job that i really wanted and so I'm annoyed that they couldn't give me a weeks notice for interview.

It was a job in a private school. It was a non teaching role, but it was just the role I wanted.

I do find it very upsetting and it is disrespectful of them to ask me to interview the next day. And then not reply to me at all.

Oh well.

If they are unwilling to change the day then politely decline. That does not sound like a good working environment.

Comtesse · 08/07/2024 23:38

Ok to offer an interview the next day on the off chance you can make it - but very bad not to let you reschedule especially when they said that would be possible. Very disappointing from the school, really not your fault.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 08/07/2024 23:41

I think this is very poor practice and you've probably had a lucky escape.

But I'm wondering if they advertised the interview date when they posted the job and maybe thought that they didn't need to give more notice because of that? Still crap though, and very poor form not to respond to the email.

No, there was no interview date on the job advert.

I think asking someone to do a next day interview is really bad practice anyway.

If I was hiring for a job , I wouldn't ask someone to attend the interview on the next day.

I would know that they would need to arrange time off.

This is the first job that has ever asked me to interview on the next day.

It's stressed me out a bit.

As in working full time, and it's just recently that I've decided I want to move jobs.

And this was one of the first jobs I applied for.

And I'm just thinking : is this how jobs are these days, are they all going to be like this.

Like to give no notice at all for interview.

If so, I'll find it very difficult to attend an interview. And get a new job

Hopefully they won't be all like this and the others will give me at least some notice
